I'd like to upgrade my Yamaha NSW1 Powered woofer which is used in conjunction with

Yamaha NS2000 and Yamaha B2 amplifier.

The B2 and NS2000 is a very detailed amp speaker combination, but is some what shy on bass extension for my musical taste.

For many years I’ve had the Yamaha C2A as a  pre. but now using a Yamaha C4 which give me more control over tone and bass.

The Yamaha NSW1 has always been used in my system to supplement bass extension and when I purchased it in the early 80’s there wasn’t a huge choice in (sub) woofers.

I’m going to replace the NSW1 and would like feedback from members on there choice of powered sub woofers.

Hi @Brins

Do you have a price in mind, what type of music do you listen to, how big is your room, will you be using the system whilst watching movies?

Original crossover in the NS-2000? Do they use an iron core inductor in the bass/woofer feed? Had good results with foil types (not the NS-2000 yet)

I'm a fan on the M&K V75 and V125.

Also a fan of the B2?

Thanks so far Guys, NS2000 are original , no alterations to crossovers, the B2 is a great amp , very valve like sound, but in saying that, it does exhibit some valve traits of insufficient bass well, compared to a Yamaha M2 which which I have  in my second system.

With age I now prefer the musicality of the B2 with the NS2000's with there exceptional mid and highs.

The Yamaha NSW1 with it 10" woofer had been satisfactory but there has been good advances in sub woofers in the past few years, and I now went to go lower and get some concert sound.

I'm a rock/soft rock fan guys,

I thought this time I'd go for a 12" woofer self powered, price wise $1000-$1500

SVS. I’ve been heavy into subs since the 90’s and owner many car and home subs and I’ve never failed to be impressed by SVS subs. The bass is controlled and extraordinary.

Would highly recommend SVS SB-2000 sub for your needs, I use one. If you need bass that will hit you in the chest one moment, and disappear into the musical score the next this is the sub for you.

Thankyou jakeyb77 and strop ,  that will go on my list,  Its going to be very difficult to audition so, I'll have to buy on recommendation.

Musical and very nice subs I recommend REL

I think you also may benefit using a different amp with the NS-2000. The B-2 is very nice amp, but may not fully grasp and control the NS-2000 woofers. Get a pair of B-3's, the B-1 also will shake the NS-2000 woofers better than the B-2.

@Grizzly has the best B-1 around.

This has been interesting, I never heard a NS2000, have heard an NS1000X with the same woofer but smaller cabinet volume than the Ns2000 so would have expected it to have ample bass though still in a seal cabinet design, unless I am mistaken that the standard NS1000 lacks bass and the NS2000 would have more.

Obviously, this depends on one’s bass requirements, room and setup.

In contrast my modded NS1000 in larger 67L ported cabinet has ample bass in a 3.6x5m room. The new NS5000 ported design has even more bass and quality all round.

Vintagejapan, very true the B2 is shy on bass  (well from my perspective).

I really like the B2's total quality, that's why I wanted to persist with it, as my main, as I said I can better control tone when its coupled with the Yamaha C4, previously coupled with C2A

Ive had the Yamaha M2 hooked up as my main amp and it when its cranked up it makes the NS2000's sit up and rock, but not as delicate as the B2

I know a B1 would be gorgeous, but justify the cost, and it still leaves me without thunderous bass

Similarity of the NS-1000x and NS-2000 woofers ends at the fact that they are both made from carbonfiber.

AI.M, I started with a pair of NS 1000's and wasn't impressed with the lower response, that's why I introduced the 10" NSW1 woofer.

Totally agree

Best match for the B-2 would be the NS-1000

Keep in mind the NS-2000 are 6ohm nominal versus 8ohm NS-1000, maybe that is why the B-2 is not perfect match..

vintage you could be correct, but the outpower on the B2 goes up another 20wRMS or so with 6ohm NS2000's, so output shouldn't be an issue.
