drainer2011 Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Hi, Just wondering what people would suggest on a integrated amp around the 3k-5k mark. Been looking at Hegel, moon audio and luxman. Any suggestions welcome.
Irek Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 It depends of many things including your personal taste, speakers. Do you need a DAC or/and streamer built in? What's your source? Few of the popular ones are: Hegel, Moon, Luxman, Rega, Musical Fidelity, Exposure, Parasound, Naim, Primaluna, Primare, Plinius, NAD, Pechtree Nova, Roksan, Creek, Vincent ... 1 1
drainer2011 Posted November 6, 2019 Author Posted November 6, 2019 I would like to have the Dac built in. Need to make as easy as possible for the other family members. All in one solution. Streamer I’m looking at bluesound node 2i and using Apple TV for non hi res files.
rantan Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 (edited) This is what you want. A truly one box solution and superb performance in every way. Can be had for about 10% off this listed price. I would love one myself but............... https://www.audiotrends.com.au/audio-trends-brands/naim-audio/naim-audio-uniti-atom-hdmi.html Edited November 6, 2019 by rantan 2
drainer2011 Posted November 6, 2019 Author Posted November 6, 2019 Ok cool. Looks nice I have seen them online but never saw them as an amp I just thought it was a streamer and dac. Is the 40watt enough to run say a medium size floor standing speaker eg: Dynaudio Contour 30’s?

I haven't heard one with the Contour 30's but it really does drive a wide variety of speakers far better than the specs would suggest. It is so damn good I want one even though I don't need one. Also, it looks and feels superb and ease of use, plus WAF is off the chart.
drainer2011 Posted November 7, 2019 Author Posted November 7, 2019 Ok I’ll have to check it out. It does look awesome. Thanks for your help 1
Ray H Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Hegel and Simaudio are well known to work synergistically with Dynaudio, they are good places to start. I would want an amp that doubles its wattage into a 4 ohm load or thereabouts, indicating good current. Class A Audio have most of the brands referred to except Naim and Hegel. The Simaudio 340 or Hegel 190 would be the minimum IME to do justice to the contours. A second hand Gryphon would be excellent if you can find an older Callisto 200 or similar. 1
drainer2011 Posted November 7, 2019 Author Posted November 7, 2019 I will have to try find someone who has Hegel and dynaudio in the same shop.
Ray H Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 That would be addicted to audio, but their focus is Headfi. Maybe ring them up and see if they can get in demo’s for you as they usually have limited Hi Fi components. 1

drainer2011 Posted November 7, 2019 Author Posted November 7, 2019 Didn’t realise they let you do that. Would be nice to hear it in your own environment.
Chill3 Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 NAD C388 with a BluSound MDC module - with that you get an great DAC, Digital amp with 150w and the BluOS module built in 1

mattd2308 Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 Denon PMA 2500NE (underrated in my opinion) I have one. Negotiated a good price at Carlton Audio, who stock Dynaudio as well 1

The dynaudio contour 30s are 4ohm. I suspect this won't be able to adequately drive those speakers, as nice a unit as it is. Edited November 7, 2019 by Ittaku 1
Ittaku Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 (edited) This would be my recommendation $2890: http://www.mcleans.info/shop/productDetails.do?categoryId=1232&productId=264570 Enough power and built in DAC. More info at nuprime website: https://nuprimeaudio.com/product/ida-16/ Review: http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/nuprime-ida-16-integrated-amplifierdac/ Edited November 7, 2019 by Ittaku

Never seen that one before, specs are good and also looks good. Seems I have a bit of homework to do.

blybo Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 The Moon Neo Ace is quite punchy despite rated at only 50w per channel. A true all in 1 unit able to run Roon, MQA, MM phono, internet radio etc etc. I also highly rated the Naim in a home demo at my place but felt it was a tiny bit shouty in comparison to the Moon. Wasn't sure if I might tire of it over time despite being highly impressive on demo. 2
Al.M Posted November 7, 2019 Posted November 7, 2019 (edited) Yamaha AS2100 gets good reviews. You can also run a power amp direct to some kind of DAC preamp streamer thing. Say custom built Hypex NC500 mono blocks 400w (see a Hypex threads) into the DAC pre, which would give you much higher quality power amp sound than many integrateds and drive a much bigger range of difficult load speakers. A used $10k rrp intergrated or separate pre power can be easily found with much higher sound quality result. Edited November 7, 2019 by Al.M 1
