Item: 12ax7 valves
Price Range: $50-200
Item Condition: New or Used
Extra Info: I'm after something to suit my line magnetic. So far research says that either NOS RCA, Telefunken or similar would suit. Happy to try out current production Gold Lions and Tung Sol.

Or consider these new, there are others on this forum that have good experiences with them:

Thanks for the tip.
I actually had a set of these in my first valve amp (PrimaLuna) a few years back - they didn’t suit the PL, however I’m aware different circuits yeild different results.

im actually trying to stay away from that website so I don’t accidentally order a set of ACME’s!! ??

I’ve had great results with the new Gold Lion. After two recent horrendous NOS dealings I think the security of new is worth it for me

Thanks - I'm going to give these a shot.

Still on the lookout for some NOS to try though.

You are correct Cam. It becomes a game of educated guess work.

The RCA and Telefunkens have a very different sound character to each other.

Tube rolling is yet another rabbit hole in this hobby. And a big one at that!

I have slowly collected 22 different types and the results are quite amazing. Worthwhile exercise once you get it right!

RCA's are cheaper than Telefunken's so that's a relatively low risk first move in the NOS world.

Good luck with that Jake. I’m sure you’ve done your research.
I don’t have the first clue on KT150’s myself.

It sure is! I've got a bag full of NOS 12au7 tubes from my PrimaLuna so I know what you mean. Thanks for the tip on RCA.

Ecc83 = 12ax7. These are gold pins, not run in yet. Exceptional tubes.

Argh! Saw the ad and saw that it was closed so assumed they were sold.. Thanks, but too late. Just ordered a new pair from Evatco. Hopefully when they arrive these will scratch the itch for a little while.

Off topic but had you tried the 120 first?
I’m finding them a bit harsh in trebel at higher volumes. I believe the 150 resolves this somewhat

How many hours on the Kt120’s? I used them in an older PrimaLuna and found them harsh until a couple of full weekend break in sessions. Then after that I loved them.

I only went the KT150 as they were the biggest available to go into the newer HP PrimaLuna. Otherwise I would’ve used the KT120.

Also pre tubes will make a big difference.

i hope this helps.
