Wondering what would be better for music do you think. My existing Denon 3808 or if I buy a new Denon 3600H?

There are ways to improve music on a HT setup, but not sure that changing to a newer Denon model will improve things? There are AVR brands known to be more musical e.g. stable mate Marantz, Arcam, NAD, Anthem.

The best approach to improving music is to add stereo gear into the HT setup.

Add Cambridge to the list of musical avr's too, especially the powerful ones.

but yeh you'd prob be better keeping the 3808 and adding $1000 2ch amp from the classifieds to improve just 2ch music.

Cheers guys basically after new features. Prob use it for half movies and half music.

You probably won't lose a lot of 2ch performance then and get to enjoy the new features

Agreed, especially when OP said 50/60 split below

Atmos etc

How many channels?  Budget?

If you want to upgrade to Atmos but continue using an AVR for music, you will be better off not going Denon. Another factor to consider is both Dirac Live (Arcam, NAD) and Anthem Room Correction are much better than Audessey for music.

But if music is more the priority, then add an integrated amp plus DAC etc.

I would love to go Arcam etc but just not in the budget.

My system is Paradigm, well towers and centre are.

Anthem is stable mate of Paradigm. Or go cheapest to NAD T758V3 which I have.  It is no where near my stereo, but if it was my one box solution, I could live with it.

Sorry not sure what you mean is no where near my stereo? What is no where near your stereo?

Sorry, the same music from the AVR is not as clean, detailed, sound stage smaller, less resolution than what my stereo can achieve.

Oh ok  cheers so you mean you have a NAD as the AVR but use something else for your music etc?

Correct, NAD for HT and Devialet Phantom Golds for my stereo. If you follow the link in that page to my journey, you will see I had a complicated setup. Not mentioned is how the HT and stereo used to share the mains & subs, a complicated setup, not for everyone!

Generally speaking stereo amp is much better than AVR for music at the same price. Much better means more details, better dynamics, better sound stage and goosebumps. There is a dark side though, it's very addictive.
