The Heil speaker platform was/is based on the ground-breaking Heil Air Motion Transformer which is a special compressed ribbon midrange/tweeter design that applies compression to the air perpendicular to the radiated direction of the sound. This special approach creates angular velocity which results in exceptionally high-efficiency control over the air mass with what would otherwise be considered subtle fluctuations in the ribbon.  Result: Efficiency, remarkable clarity, accuracy, lowest distortion.

AMTs are now produced by Mundorf and Beyma and utilised in many high-end speakers.

The bass is produced by a 10" woofer and a rear facing passive driver to provide very good reproduction

Very rare and collectible.

@keys1234 These look like AMT1a's?

Wonderful speakers in my opinion.

These look different to my AMT1's behind the Heil driver (mine have the adjustments under the box near the port) and mine don't have the rear facing radiator.

ESS AMT1's, my first real HiFi speakers, still love mine.

GLWTS.

These old girls look like AMT1a units to me.

Great speakers.  I still have 2 pairs of AMT6s that my Dad bought new back in 1975.

But are the drivers 10"?  The AMT 1 came with 10" drivers, but they were pressed tin Mexican units.

I'm thinking these are the 12" cast units, but I could be wrong.

(I've never seen 10" drive units with these square cut cast baskets.  And I have seen and owned many pairs of these wonderful speakers)

Hi Red ,

these are10 inch drivers

OK, so I am wrong again.

Regardless, great speakers and easy for any amp to drive.
