Item: Integrated stereo amplifier - preferably one that can do a minimum of 100 watts at 4 ohms. If you have a Yamaha A-S1100 in silver all the better.
Price Range: $1000-$2300
Item Condition: New or Used
Extra Info: Doesn't have to have bluetooth, streaming or anything like that. But it does need to have some power. Will be good to see if anyone has something they don't use anymore. I live in Western Sydney, so an in person demo would be preferred before any cash sale. Any hey if it's got some VU meters on display or nice lighting all the better. Preferably silver.

Depending on what your use case is and which features draw you to the Yamaha, if you are open to an English amp, there is a very well priced Rega Elicit-R on eBay at present.

The drawbacks that I can see for you:

1. it is located in Darwin, not Sydney,

2. it is black (you can have any colour you like, as long as it is black),

3. It is not multizone, as I believe the Yamaha is, and

4. It has basic appearance (no VU meters).

As reported at http://www.rega.co.uk/elicit-r.htmlpower output is 105W into 8 ohms, and 162W into 4 ohms.

There are many positive reviews of the Elicit-R on the web.

It has just had a price drop to $2000 (new price in Australia is mid $3000's), so even with shipping, it is in the middle of your price range.

You can see the Rega at https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/193102455655

I have no relationship to the seller, have simply been watching it while I try to raise some funds.

Cheers,

Nick

Excellent perspective Nick, I’ll check it out. Thank you very much for pointing out what looks like could be a great deal.

That's a sharp price for new, thank you for pointing it out. Will see if I can get a match/beaten somewhere in Sydney. There's always a chance someone might have a cracking deal for something second hand too.

Have you heard the amp?

I had an A-S1100 and it was the blandest sounding piece of garbage amp I’ve had in my system.

Whike I respect that everyone has different taste I would highly recommend you listen to one if you haven’t and don’t be fooled by its great looks.

Unfortunately I've only heard the A-S1100 in isolation - I couldn't do A/B testing with other amps. I'm hoping to get out next weekend and check out a few different ones.

Good to get your perspective as it's a fair whack of money for me to shell out on a first hifi system. Can you recommend any of your favourites I should try in my price range? The will be driving some Buchardt S400's arriving next weekend

There is or was a silver Musical Fidelity in the classifieds a couple of weeks ago in your budget. No meters but the power you need and much better sonically.

I actually own and love many Yamaha amps but the new ones are nothing like the old.
