dez4096
Hi, I'm trying to output optical audio from my Sony 50inch W700b TV. It only outputs Dolby Digital/DTS, and has no PCM/stereo output. I found only a couple of small (i.e. fits behind a wall mounted TV) DACs that will convert the signal (for feeding to my Allo Volt + Double). 1) Muxlab - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1125970-REG/muxlab_500088_digital_audio_converter_dolby.html or https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/907333-REG/muxlab_500081_digital_audio_converter.html/reviews 2) Aliexpress - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33055101895.html Does anyone have any better suggestions? Happy to change to a DAC-AMP combo that can fit in the narrow gap behind the TV . Thanks!
dez4096
Oh. And forgot to say that it all feeds into two B+W M1s, so I don't need anything too fancy to drive them. Clearly it is already a decent upgrade from the tv speakers. But, unfortunately, i'm currently using the headphone out to the volt Allo (via 3.5mm to RCA cable) because I don't have any other options for proper lineout until I find a suitable Dolby-compatible DAC. Satanica
I think these kind of devices quite likely drop the .1 channel from the 5.1. If you can potentially live with that then fine.
H.E. Pennypacker
You should be able to set the TV to output PCM: http://docs.esupport.sony.com/imanual/LA/2014/KDL-55W957B/ltn-dvbt_uen/c_extsnd_digaout.html my current and former Sony both work (more or less) like this. dez4096
Magic. Thank you. Just curious, do you have an efficient way of controlling the volume with the same tv remote (or do you simply just use the std second remote for the amp)? I wonder whether theres a way to customise the IR receiver to accept the same volume signal as the normal tv remote. Or, in my case, the allo volt has no remote, which can be a pain

I think most TV's will drop the LFE (.1) channel when downmixing from 5/6/7.1 to 2.0 as well. You can use those Dolby Digital and DTS tests to check. Farpun
Hi a company called Blustream have a DAC called DAC12DB that downmixes Dolby Digital/DTS to analog or digital PCM/stereo.They also have the HD12DB that does similar but outputs PCM/stereo digitally, which you can attach any DAC to, it also has a video processor in it.They aren't released yet but will be later in the year.Hope this helps.
