Hi All

Just purchased a S/H Luxman LV105u - The amp only works with the 'CD in / direct' button on.

Not sure  what the problem is but understand they suffered from a lot of dry solder

Can someone please recommend an amplifier repairer familiar with these Luxmans , who can assist at reasonable price

Must be Melbourne based preferably Eastern suburbs but will travel

Many Thanks for any direction

Does it have a preamp in/ out rcas on the back. If so they should be linked.

Download the manual. I still think this will be the case if it only works on the cd direct. I say this because I fell for this once.

It's obviously in the tone controls section, somewhere in the front end that the CD Direct function by-passes.

It doesn't have Pre Amp In/Out, but has Signal Processor In/Out, which is not quite the same....It's for an equaliser.

Im assuming your comment "amp only works with the 'CD in / direct' button on" means that you only get signal when you press the "CD Straight" button?

As you can see in the block diagram below pressing the "CD Straight" button bypasses a lot of the circuitry which as you say can often have gone faulty due to poor contacts or dry joints.

Have sent you a PM regarding repair.

Put an rca cable in processor in and out. I think you will find the amp will be fine. They normally have some little links which have obviously been removed.

It's for an equaliser (that's what a signal processor is), It's not the same as pre out and main in. When the Signal processor button on the front is de-pressed they are linked and when pressed in they are separated so the equaliser is switched in very early in the circuit when one is connected.

Their should be little links in between. Grabbing an Rca lead to link together is a simple task. I bet it fixes the issue

Many thanks for taking the time to contribute - My electronics knowledge is limited to on / off and input / volume

The problem is when I switch off 'CD straight' the signal / volume stops ie no music , therefore no treble / bass , completely zero

Not sure why but the RCA cable is going from the CD player to the amp

Now here's the stupid question - I am using a Pioneer DVD player DV344 Would that be sending a signal that cant be recognised????

Cheers

Grab a spare rca cable and link both channels of processor in to out. Plug you cd player into cd on the amp. Make sure cd is selected and cd direct is off. It should work.
This is a common trap with these amps

I fitted an aux cable ( spotify on my phone ) via the 'tuner' rca channel - Switched off CD direct , pushed tuner,  all i get is an extremely faint scrathy noise of the song - Unless you have your ear to the speaker you can barely hear it

Will give it to tubular bells to look at

Is this what you mean - bridge these

Will do Thanks Simon

Being a little OCD is this a bandaid covering a problem - Suspect when new this wasn't needed ???

Is your solution masking an internal problem Really curious

It would have come with the links originally and they must have been removed to add a processor or most commonly an equalizer by the previous owner. It is not a band aid problem as RCA leads are just longer links. Their is nothing wrong with your amp. Trust me you have nothing to lose

Sorry, but that is incorrect, when the signal processor button is not pushed in at the front the in and out are already linked, pressing that button in disengages it and separates the in and out for the use of a recorder or equaliser connected there.

He can try what you suggest but it's like putting a hat on when you are already wearing a hat ;)
