My comments were based on my experience of a small hand full of retailers, dissapointing as it was, not all are cast from the same mould.

There were many on this forum that not only were keen for a hi fi show, but are of a better breed of dog if i'm to borrow your analysis. I look forward to meeting them in October and enjoying their warm hospitality.

I believe it will be a good show and should attract many visitors. It has been a while since the last one and people here are more optomistic in life.

Considering all the disaters recently, it is good to have something for people to look forward to.

Cheers, E.

See previous comment. Agreed, should be a good one!

Cheers,

Bodhi.

Afternoon Gu, Well I hope you guys get your act together in your room-- at THE SHOW in Jan we all sat down in the AN room to be wondrously engrossed in copious amounts of splendiferous musical enjoyment!

Cope put on Alice in Chains--the room emptied en masse!

so far i've got about 30 tracks sorted and probably need another 20 to be not to limited.you will be entertained, guarantee no known suspects, no audiophile approved tracks.

Glad to hear it Guru. There's nothing worse than going to one of these shows and hearing the same old 'audiophile' tracks and artists over and over again. Have you ever noticed that all that shite is 'easy' to reproduce and doesn't expose the system to any stress. Your track listing would be interesting.

afternoon andrew,

we were in melbourne 3 weeks ago and went to the marriot to have a look at the room and work out how to set the system up. not an easy room to work with [nice fitout though and quite nice to walk through a spacious lobby, staff very happy to assist ] and would be easier with speakers that could be pushed out further into the room but ours need corner proximity to sound best. very short decay time and i would think can be overloaded easily. solid walls, lowish ceiling, more suited to intimate levels rather than in your face. still the music i have been sorting is based on dynamic swings and great musical performances. this mornings amazon delivery brought gorecki conducting his own third symphony and 2 different piano works ,yuja wang playing rachmaninov and helene grimaud working the ivories with mozart, berg, liszt and bartok. going to have to put a sign on the door of the hotel room saying, "SORRY NO HOME THEATRE COMPONENTS PRESENT, WE ONLY PLAY MUSIC"

enjoy your afternoon.

regards,g.

Hi Guru,

Now, you seem to be a rather aggressive defensive chap with a short temper to boot. So does that mean, with your aversion to non-vinyl (or was that my mistaken perception) and heavy leaning to the classical side of the musical fence, that my test tracks, which demonstrate to me what I am seeking to hear, will not be welcome. That would be ordinary stuff like Cinematic Orchestra with Roots Manouvre,

Fourtet, Nils Petter Molvaer and Chemical Bros are not welcome? If so I will come and stand at the back admoire the Chopin four five minutes and not bother you. Would hate to annoy.

morning grimmie,

i don't know who you have me confused with but aggressive and short tempered are the most unusual character traits i've been labelled with but it doesn't worry me, it's how you see the person that counts.

as to music ,95% of what i buy is cd based,so no aversion to the format, i've got a very large vinyl collection and have a new turntable being built so i can bring it to melbourne, best of both worlds really. this morning i got another amazon package containing 8 cds, the elfin knight as recommended by jaspert, arve henriksen's cartography, nik bartsch's ronin, marcin wasilewski's trio, faithful, january and others by nik bartsch. my music tastes encompass most everything from pusifer to amand amar to mary gauthier to early elton john to jordi savall to jan bang, all of which i would play to demonstrate the equipment. why audio note uk puts such a sign on their room door is that quite often at the shows young males ,upon entering a room and not finding the monaco race scene from iron man 2 on a large screen playing at full tilt express to themselves and anyone who has ears, "let's get the f--k out of here, only wankers". tends to ruin the ambience and as to people bringing their own music, that's fine if they want to come back later and have a short private session, i've been there when someone brings along something they think is wonderful and all it does is clear the room. it's costing me $10k to do this show and i don't want people walking away saying that sounded ordinary because of a poor music selection. i'll wear it if it's my choice but as i said, if they want to come back later and hear it by themselves then that's fine. by the way i added hamada by nils to my wishlist.

All the commercial SNA members that participate must have a secret picture of Salma in the display and the rest of the SNA members who attend get a prize for finding them all - its the "SNA SALMA TRAIL"

Great idea, are the commercial members up for this?

He-he-he, Well done Guru,

I was expecting a real rocket up the rear for that post, but you didn't take the bait.

Great to see that you will be playing Jan Bang. I have the CD "....and Poppies from Kandahar" which I love more each play, and Nick Barts Ronin "Llyria" so I'll introduce myself and maybe I can stay a little longer. Please spare me the symphonic stuff though.

I can well understand your frustration with the hoi-poloi queerin' your pitch, but perhaps it would be wise not to be too dismissive of the rabble as that show is the place where they just may be converted. I remember that at the Hiat Hotel show back in the mid nineties I was one of those damn tyre kickers, I got progressively more serious about my system after that experience.

i'm a very calm individual grimmie.

llyria was one of those new ones today. do you have harold budd and hector zazou's "glyph"? you definitely must get "cartography". jan bang does the sampling and other bits.

as for the rabble, i just don't want the constant chatter in the background by persons not interested in music and would be much happier watching avatar in 3d.

Looks like potential exhibitors are gonna need deep pockets: $5500 per room? *Meep*.

Midsize stands at Cedia are $20k + extras like carpet tiles, electricity ... the list goes on. $5500 isn't too bad.

went to cedia this year, traffic was very light and stands started closing down at 1pm on the friday, quite light on for exhibitors. if it wasn't tied into a building innovation show happening in the next door hall there would have been even less and there was very few in there as well. the chinese exhibitors who comprised half of the show must have been crying foul over the lack of visitors. the only thing interesting was the exhibitor who was more than willing to elaborate on his firm's involvement in suppling wilson speakers with there material x speaker cabinet panels and wanting to know if i wanted some as long as it was 10 sheets minimum.

cheers,g.
