Finally - A Proper Aussie HiFi Show

Featured Replies

I've just been advised that Melbourne will host "The Australian Audio and AV Show" on October 21 to 23, 2011.

The show will be held at the Marriot Hotel in the heart of Melbourne and will be organised by the Chester Group (organisers of the UK's National Audio Show) with support from Nextmedia, Australian HiFi and Sound and Image.

The Sound and Image awards dinner will be rescheduled to link with the show.

Hopefully Edgar will add some details.

(And wouldn't you friggin know it, the damn things on the same weekend as the Hawkesbury Canoe Classic which I'm locked into)

Well I'm looking forward to this. Must have been in the 90's that I last went to one

Finally! Always a tad jealous of the reports of the US shows with loads of exotic gear on display.

Great.....a "home grown" show at last......looks very promising.

It sure is! A "home grown" show with some "home grown" products ;-)

Exciting stuff indeed!

So I take it you'll be attending :) ??

most likely Drizt!

Well Well Well,

It took a UK company that will obviously invite UK retailers to set up a show in Aus when all the aussie retailers could do was ***** and whine about each other, rather than work together in putting together their own show.

Interesting to see how much Chester group will charge. I'm not keen on the venue, typical little hotel rooms and not the 6mX7m solid brick rooms i had locked in.

Whilst this is fantastic to us audio fanatics, it is dissapointing to see that it took a couple of guys from the opposite end of the earth to put together something no one here wanted to bother with.

As many of you are aware, i tried to get a show together by assisting a wholesaler (out of pure love of hi fi) who was keen having a show. After spending considerable time canvassing venues and locking one in, for reasons not disclosed to me he lost interest. I have my suspicions but that's it.

In the end, i did not get the support i needed and i got surprisingly lots of negative, bitching bulls$it from some of the very people the Hi Fi show was supposed to be helping. Many comments about how sales are not like it used to be, the industry is dying, yada, yada, yada, so and so won't attend if so and so is there.

Pure childish behaviour from professionals.

No focus on the benefits or popularity of a show and were happy to sob about the yester year rather than try and "win" over a new generation of people and get them out of their MP3 world.

I was also exposed to some very nasty negative back stabbing within the industry - something that was a shock and dissapointment. Some people should be ashamed of themselves.

It is at least good that someone else has noted there is very good reason for them to organise a show in a far away country. Pity no one else here thought so.

Now that would be a great idea: an SNA outing to the HiFi show, dinner after, sounds like it could be the best GTG of all.

Enigma,

Just be glad someone had the ability to get it off the ground. Forget about the bitterness and embrace the show :)

True, True,

I am happy that there is a show, finally we all can enjoy something that was missed.

I just like the idea of having everything all there in one spot where we can escape the real world for a while. Adelphi in Singapore was a shopping mall of hifi shops only, it was a bit like a Chadstone shopping centre for men.

The show will e great fun and a SNA GTG at the show is a fun idea.

One of the problems with Hi Fi retailers in Melb (and i'm sure it is the same in other states) is that they are spread out all over the place and not lifestyle friendly if you have children or commitments to also have to make time for.

Often you spend hours just to visit these places.

Looking forward to going...last remember going to something similar in Melbourne over 15 years ago...
