Hey.... enough with the SGR talk already.... this is a Focal thread!

I was waiting for Drizt to come along and put his hand up as an illegitimate cousin too :P

Congratulations Curious on getting the SGR subs…the addition of the subs will make your Focals into something extra special. (Added to keep on topic (j/k)) :P

I own a pair of Focal 1007's as fronts. Very happy with them, still deciding on a sub.

I've heard SGR subs are pretty good, but they don't get much of a mention here :D:D:P:P

He he, I couldn't help myself making a small reference to the SGR subs guys...the Divas really are bringing back that l  ving feeling for my music...having some of team SGRs best bottom end gear is just what the doctor ordered for an old Heavy-bass fan though ;)

Apologies for the OT Lyle, just add it to the 'Curious owes you another drink' list for when you visit ^_^

Cheers,

Curious

PS. just working through 'Dark side of the moon' as I type...Omigod..."the house is skakin' Aunty Em!" :o

Hey

I have the 816's for fronts matched with the 800 centre. Could not be happier (well sounds like I could be - got them hooked up to a Yamaha amp!) and would gladly purchase Focals again. To my ear when testing they were clearly better than most other brands in the range.

I am surprised how many people on here have them, when I bought them 9 months ago I hadnt heard much about them

I have a pair of the Chorus 706S hooked up to a NAD 320bee integrated amp. Had them for a couple of years. I am pretty happy with my setup and could probably live with them for the rest of my life. Though, you never know when upgraditis will strike a reformed wannabe audiophile ;)

As you should be. It would wipe the floor with an AVR based 2 channel setup, which is pretty common these days (mine included).

Hi

Have the 716Vs connected to HK970 int amp and HD970 cdp. New to all this...just know that I get excited every time I put a cd in for a listen. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

Have to say had a few speakers in my time and have to admit the focal electra 936 are absloutely stunning.Im running a Aaron hyperbolid center the HCC 600 and HSS 600 surrounds.Thankfully the Denon AVC-A1XVA audessey multi XT did a great job for the room and the speakers blend in very well. The Nad m25 power runs the focal electra's and the Aarons great.

i have a very modest focal setup consisting of the 705 bookshelves at the front, cc700v centre channel with the in ceiling 706v for the rears. These are supplemented by a velodyne spl 8 sub...all pretty small, but suits the room....

currently running these off of a yamaha rx-v750, but am seriously considering the benefits that i might gain from getting a power amp. I have read the monster poweramp thread, and it certainly sounds like a compelling move...i will go and have a listen at my local hifi store...

btw, i love my focals!

I am keen to hear your thoughts about the relative benefits of a power amp with the focals, as i have been told that with an efficient speaker (like the focals) it is not really required.

I have a Electra cc900 centre on its way. Report soon.

Also looking at a pair of Electra 905's.

I'm on my third set. Started with the Sib/Cub, replaced the fronts with the Profile bookshelves, then moved the Profiles to the bedroom and ungraded to the 1007be. Very happy now. Matched up with a Velodyne sub.

I also added the cc1000be when I got the fronts but it was just too (physically) big for my setup. It was very clear and the best centre I've heard (not that Ive done many direct comparisons though).

Still toying with the idea that an upgrade to my Rotel AVR will help my (primary) interest in 2 channel.

Why not just get a 2 channel integrated with HT bypass? B)

About to join the focal club myself! After much headache-inducing research, sample listening, um-ing and ah-ing, on order are the chorus 826v mains, cc800v centre, denon 3808 avr, b&w lm1 rears, and aaron sat60 outdoors. Can't wait for delivery!!!

Having made the jump in ht bands from sub $1k to $5k+, i have to say i was amazed at the difference in the sound between the competing yamaha 3800 and denon 3808 avrs. Listening to my test cds, the denon blitzed the yam for hi-fi. For movies, couldnt really tell a difference.

For those wondering, i chose the b&w rears at half the price of the focal rears, so i could get my already blown $5k budget to stretch and afford the denon and 826s, and besides the rears are for movies only and buggered if i could tell the difference between the more costly ones. Also postponed the purchase of the subwoofer for another day (when my savings recover!).

Thanks to all those who unknowingly helped with my decision with their posts throughout this site.

damn good maybe, but damn pricey too! havent done the listening test (will do when i have the funds to purchase) but i have an eye on the heralded krix seismix 3 woofer at half the price

I ended up pickin up two subs on sat focal profile sw 908 and the chorus sw 800v and I can tell you the 800v at that price is quite good.
