Gainz Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 About bloody time. Lets hope the material you record is not captive either...thats the main reason I love my AH3110. Hidef recording that you can easily ship out via external HD to the laptop etc.
nixon76 Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 So all those years ago when they said they've have it out in time for Christmas, they were right!
Ernie1553552694 Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 That's what they said about the Great War.

Either way $199 seems alot to me. DSE & MightyApe already have it on thier site's to pre-order. http://www.dse.co.nz/dse.shop/4ce4ef1b03df80062740c0a87f3b06c4/Product/View/YG7282 http://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/PS3/Play-TV/3668744/ I believe $149 would be a more reasonable price for NZ.
Jaxson Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 You have to install an update to PlayTV which allows for selection of NZ as a location etc. Then you also have to pay for a ($15?) Play Station Store add on that lets the EPG work properly. It will access an EPG from the internet, so to work you would essentially have to have the PS3 permanently connected to the internet. If you buy the unit here in NZ you will likely get a voucher for the $15 add on. If you purchased this overseas you will have to pay for this part yourself, rather obviously. The online guide spans out for nearly two weeks ahead but, like TIVO, there will most likely be issues around some providers not wanting to contribute their listings content to this. You know, that old story of if we tell you when it's on you might watch our programmes, but this is somehow bad for our business thing....
Ariki Padlie Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 I was tempted to pick one up in Aus this time last year at JB for around $130. Great for owners of newer PS3s with the standard "Large" Hard Drives. Us owners of the original 60GB units would have to get bigger drives. Nope i think ill just leave my PS3 for what its been doing these close to 4 years...play BD's and Games.

In fact Sony even publish a 'how to' in the owners manual. I upgraded mine a few months ago for around $130ish for a 640GB HD. Having said that, I'm going to hold getting the PlayTV until I can be 100% sure I can get a UK unit to here.
bazzer Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 100% you can, mymemory.co.uk. It's under $100, then you'll need $15 for the app from the PSN.

gooki Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 I'll confirm place of purchase once I've received shipping confirmation. I don't want to go wasting your time.
Instinct Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 OK, I've manged to order one from DVD.co.uk for 31.14 UK Pounds = $64.74 NZ Delivered. Status is now 'In Despatch' so it's looking promising... http://www.dvd.co.uk/buy/catsy86152/play-tv-with-playstation-3-tv-tuner-ps3.htm
coleus Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 no wonder local retailers are going down the tubes
nixon76 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Were PlayTV's that cheap on launch (all those years ago ) in the UK? Probably not.
Instinct Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 coleus;140329 wrote: no wonder local retailers are going down the tubes I would be prepared to buy locally at a fair price. I often buy Blu Rays when they are on Special at the Warehouse / JB Hifi who for the best part are competetive when they have a promo. The Sony PLAYTV Retails at around 70 pounds (approx $130 NZ / $145 with the software update) So you have to ask the question... are Sony or the retaillers just being Greedy? I would be happy to pay up to $140 to support local business, but the price I paid is nearly a third of the NZ price.. a no brainer really. If it goes wrong, I can still buy another and still pay less then the NZ price, so that voids the warranty argument. I would always choose to buy in NZ whenever I can, even if the price is slightly more, but when the price difference is so vast as in this case, it gets to the point you simply can't ignore importing products.

Err, no - you paid about 72.5% of the (estimated) NZ Price (by my calculation). Given the freighting costs to NZ and disproportionate distribution charges due to our small size/volume and remoteness it's probalby not too far off... As someone else mentioned NZ$200 is probalby a little steep but something around NZ$150-$180 is probalby fairly reasonable. At the end of the day someone has to make a profit somewhere or it's pointless...

I paid $64.74 NZ including Delivery. that's approx 1/3 of the NZ Price that is appearing in search engine results ($199). I agree that someone has to make a profit, but this appears to be making a killing...

No worries :-) The 70 Pounds I was referring to is the RRP in the UK. What is also interesting is that tomorrow Sony are launching the GT5 Game bundled with a 320GB PS3 Slim for $699 (or $679 is you shop around), they are also launching the PlayTV 320Gb PS3 Bundle for the same price.. now GT5 is selling from $97 (Warehouse) to $120ish, Where as PlayTV is $199.. I wonder which one is the better value bundle???

PS how'd you get a total price of 31 pounds? Mine had 4 pounds of delivery added. PS The Warehouse is advertising PlayTV for $167 NZD.
