michaelw Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Anyone buy this ? Sonically, the CD set (2CD, 1 DVD) is OK, better than the awful 25th Anniversary CD box but not as good a a good US or UK original CD. Forget the vinyl, yuk all 'round. Apparently you can get a high resolution, unlimited digital download as well.
Guest Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 A copy arrived in a courier bag from a friendly record company. I'll take a good listen shortly.
Mycenius Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I purchased from Amazon UK recently and it arrived end of last week but haven't had a chance to listen to it yet...
Daddy Dom Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I find it interesting that part of the whole "Band on The Run" story includes the demo tapes being stolen (very Diva, for film fans) so wouldn't it be cool if they turned up somewhere? They'd probably be stuffed but tape restoration these days is a pretty fine art. I'd love to hear them, in any case. DD
wapfu Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 So its released again. I have a DTS CD version and the old black round vinyl disc. The DTS version are hard to find these days - much like DVD-A. Wonder if 3 Discs is too much.

I bought a Belinda Carlisle* DVD-A recently that turned out only to have a DTS 5.1 track on it - pointless!! And there's still plenty of DVD-A titles available bro... * Yeah I know - but it was really cheap and I thought it'd be okay...
wapfu Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 When surround sound first came out DTS produced discs in 5.1 digital dts. Played on a CD player and then decoded. There was a millenium 2.4.6 processor produced by some company that had association with the producer to upgrade the then dolby digital only recievers to DTS compatability - (I have a millenium 2.4.6 in a cupboard - think it still works). They also did Queens DVD-A. Somewhere along the line the producer of the dts discs died and no more were produced. "Band On the Run" , "Venus and Mars", some Eagles, Police,Alan Parsons, have become rare and I expect collectors pieces. Some DTS discs were wrongly called DVD-A only containing DTS track. DTS did offer some extra sonic range before DVD came along. It was a stab at surround sound, which as we now know has seen the rise and fall of DVD-A, SACD plods along, and I believe some Blu-ray Music out of Norway in uncompressed 5.1. is being produced to. Seems Blu-ray does have a music redbook but currently is being pushed for video. Enough - Paul McCartney and wings "Band On The Run" - mmmmmmmm
Bevan J Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 I was luck enough to pick up a copy of the DCC Gold CD edition of this title from around 1993. Not only does it include 'Helen Wheels' on the main album but it is widely regarded as the best sounding digital version of this album. Warm and very analogue sounding. As much as I like Paul McCartney the extras don't really interest me so I'll be bypassing this latest re-issue.
