Robocop Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Projector Central have just given a new LCD projector Editors choice 2010. Its 1300US. I enquired in NZ and they say they are releasing the same projector here, but is the TW3600 at RRP $3299. The web shows slightly different specs ie:3600 has 200 watt bulb, 36,000 Lumen's, 8350 has 220 watt bulb, 50,000 Lumen's. Certainly pictures of projectors are the same. They compare it directly with the Panasonic 4000 which only has some extra features the Epsom doesn't have, otherwise picture quality the same with slight variations. As the push for 3D gains ground and projectors are released these 2D,s should get cheaper and better. The 3D technology does seem to improve all picture quality. This new Epsom is not 3D but is benefiting from 3D technology.
Tony Davey Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 36000 lumens, wow, you could operate that in direct sunlight
Robocop Posted November 12, 2010 Author Posted November 12, 2010 Reviews pretty impressive, I have to say I'm in the market to buy one. Sorry the Lumens is 2000 for the 8350 and 1800 for the 3600, the figures I've quoted above are contrast ratio. Certainly would be stunning at 36,000 Lumens!!!!!!!!!! I think they are different projectors the 8350 has only just been released in the US. If anyone can shed any light on this go for it. Gary.M1553552674 Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 A friend in the US has just bought one. It cost him US$1199 incl delivery. They have some buying power over there. To top it off, he got it, went to install it yesterday, and dropped it from the mount 9 feet on to a carpeted floor. It shattered. He rang Epson support, told them what had happened and asked if they had a repair option. The support person put his supervisor on, and he was asked to repeat his story which he did. The supervisor said it was the first time anyone had told him a straight story about a mishap. He then arranged to have a replacement new projector sent out at no cost. The damaged one to be returned. Some service. Go Epson USA!!!
Rhygar Posted November 14, 2010 Posted November 14, 2010 Wonder if Panasonic will now drop the price of the AE4000? I will be watching wth great interest.
Dunnersfella1553552754 Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 If Panasonic do drop the price, I doubt it will be due to a new Epsom product.... More likely, it will be done in order to reduce stock levels prior to a new projector being released. The AE4000 is getting a little old in the tooth now...
Robocop Posted November 16, 2010 Author Posted November 16, 2010 The 4000 is still a good projector with more features than the new Epsom. The 4000 won't drop in price till the 5000 comes on the market which one presumes will be sometime next year.
Tony Davey Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 If the 4000 is "a little old in the tooth", whats the AX200? That is the model that sruprises me still carries a $3k RRP price tag. Particularly when you look at the Epson TW450 at $1776 according to Noel Leemings site. Panny ha higher contrast ratio, similar luments, smooth screen where epson doesnt have that, but certainly a "similarly specced" projector fora lot less $$. Is it that Epson has realised that there is limited value now in sub Full HD projectors and are trying to entice people into projection with a well priced unit? I suspect there is more wriggle room to do a deal on the panny than there may be with the Epson (speculative), but the price point is pretty appealing right off the bat
Dunnersfella1553552754 Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 I have seen the AX200 specialed off for under 2k... so the real world price seems to be a little different from the RRP / web prices etc.
Robocop Posted November 16, 2010 Author Posted November 16, 2010 Real world pricing is different. I would say any prior models to the 4000 would be discounted quite heavily. Considering our dollar at the moment, room for pricing downwards is certainly there. I would say the new Epsom would be got for $3k.
