Gainz Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I've had this on my wall mount for two weeks now with an ortofon bronze. It is a lovely deck, in original packaging, with original interconnects supplied (I believe cardas makes them.) Very close to new condition. I'm keeping the cartridge and the only reason I'm selling is that a deck on my absolutely, must have before I die, for a price I can almost afford list has appeared on TM. Members can take it for $450. I paid $500 for it from the distributor, which had only demo hours on it. It sounds great. The only thing missing is the cork mat, which was absent when I bought it.
Papa Hemi Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 what's the TM deck - promise I won't be bidding on it!
Gainz Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 Lets just say it's a direct drive classic... with mods
Nak-Mad Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 analogism;137493 wrote: Lets just say it's a direct drive classic... with mods So that'd be the 1210 then..... but my money would be on the SP15
Gainz Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 I would love the sp15. But it has an original plinth and michell arm... I don't think I could afford that unless I sold my plinius!!! The 1210 is the one I want. I am a huge fan of technics decks because of the way they gel with Plinius amps. The bass is amazing, whereas I've always found my mid range belt drives (TD 320, P2, RPM5) to wander a little in the lower registers. Of course some people blame that on the plinius, and I would agree, but system matching with the 1210 would make me a happy chappy. I'm putting the RPM on TM today.

I'd have to agree , have a big soft spot for technics DD's myself..... that 1210 looks to be in excellent condition with some tasty upgrades.. (That SP15 is not in 'perfect' condition IMHO...... a bit scuffed in places and a hole where there shouldn't be one.. and though starting cheaper, it has already met reserve this far out.. so you could be right on 'price') The 1210 is a lot more 'accomodatable' than the SP15 too.... my SP25 is both a beast in terms of weight, and a shelf hog in terms of space! Good luck on selling the RPM-5.. a lot of TT for the money you were asking here .. and hope you score that 1210.
Gainz Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 Thanks. I'm tempted to tell the guy, "look I'll buy now but you gotta give me two weeks to sell some stuff". It's funny because I almost bought a 1210 three years ago, from HN, with the idea of a rega arm and other upgrades...
Papa Hemi Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Personally the SP15 would be my choice, but I understand the following for the 1200 and it's iterations. The SP15 is likely to go for a bit mor than the current $950, but I'd still be keeping my eye on it. There are a heap of the 1200 types in this area: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Music-instruments/PA-pro-audio-DJ-equipment/Turntables/mcat-0343-4616-4618-.htm including this one: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Music-instruments/PA-pro-audio-DJ-equipment/Turntables/auction-327731617.htm You could always do your own mods, if you pick one up cheap enuff... Just a thought.
Gainz Posted November 2, 2010 Author Posted November 2, 2010 I was the first bidder for the sp 15... the great thing about the 1210 is that ITS DONE and it has not been used for Djing. Unfortunately, I've just learned my deposit for my wedding venue (1500) is due this week. Hopefully the 1210 is relisted. The RPM 5 is still for sale.
Citroen Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 That Sp15 looks like a goer! I've never owned a direct drive, but both those Technics actually look sweet. Shame the RPM5 didn't quite work out for you. At $450 the price is fantastic. I'd buy it but it doesn't come with the cork mat

Re the RPM-5..c'mon Newbie, don't be a blouse .. buy it.. sod the cork mat, fit an ISOmat 1 for under a hundy and seriously enjoy it!!! I would, but death would be swift if I turn up with yet another TT ..
Guest Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Interesting the seller of the 1210 is going to a Well Tempered...

I would, but death would be swift if I turn up with yet another TT .. I've previously owned the RPM5, and the cork mat really made it sing for me. Pfffffff to the Isomat! Seriously, someone BUY this thing as its a great turntable, full of prat, very musical, even handed with the right cart and looks gorgeous. NakMad, if I bought another turntable (without selling one first) I think my Nads would be Mad (and missing)...

The grandaddy's were the SL120 and original SL1200.. fit your own, and Technics arm respectively....If my memory serves me right, the SL120 stayed pretty much 'as is' and died many years ago, but the SL1200 morphed in to the many 1210 iterations seen today... That modded 1210 takes it back close to the original SL120 and probably a bit beyond/ahead in terms of performance.. the SL120 was a great deck in it's day, and still very useable now... I only parted with mine to upgrade to the SP25 , but it wasn't a huge step up over the SL120. Of those two, if they end up going for similar prices, that SL1210 is by far more nicely 'presented', and would have to be my pick... I've always found the dome over the tone arm base sexy anyway , whilst that SP15 needs some tidying and has suffered from 'borer' on the plinth top which detracts from the appeal to me...

NEVER EVER bid until just shy of 2 minutes before the auction closes!! Can you see my finger wagging...?
Gainz Posted November 2, 2010 Author Posted November 2, 2010 Yes, but I was just trying to shake out a reserve. As I'm not really going to be in the auction, at the very least I can destroy another young mans dream.

Gainz Posted November 3, 2010 Author Posted November 3, 2010 Ok, $400. It makes me weep! This TT is in perfect nick, all boxed, and it retails for $1200 at real groovy! I'm sure I can get the 1210 for just over a grand, I think his asking price is high, and he will let me pay over a short period. If I don't sell it here I'll let it loose on tardme...we must be in a recession!
