mmfz Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 The report is full of errors and missing information. It makes me wonder why we keep subscribing. Good part is our TV is one of the recommended ones. Fair comment about the 3D. Virtually no films available in 3D using current tech although I have read that the major studios are pushing for most new action/thriller/scifi movies to be filmed in 3D e.g Jackass. I guess we will have to wait and see
daver1553552689 Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 I think the world moves too fast for these sites now and I don't think a test has ever lined up with my buying intentions so I have the same thoughts. Also like you said there is useful stuff missing e.g. until I tried didn't realise Samsung would read NTFS hard drives and play back full HD MKV's. That puts it a couple of notches above the others all things being equal.

Jackass is a 'new action', 'thriller', and/or 'sci-fi' movie?  What is a 'new action' movie anyway...?
Dunnersfella1553552754 Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 I'm guessing the review is subscribers only content? Or is there a link?
mmfz Posted October 31, 2010 Author Posted October 31, 2010 Jackass is a 'new action', 'thriller', and/or 'sci-fi' movie? What is a 'new action' movie anyway...? I would term Jackass an action movie and an example of, according to the article I read, a movie where the studio specified it must be made in 3D. Dunnerfella, yes, the report is subscriber only but I wouldn't feel like you missed out on much. As I said it contained several omissions and errors. We have used Consumer for years to help make buying decisions but find over the last couple of years they seem to be dropping the ball regularly. On a positive note they have introduced subscribers comments which I have found very useful.
Ernie1553552694 Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 I think that Consumer cannot be all things to all people. There are too many specialist products coming in that are probably better judged by the consumers themselves rather than a presiding body of self-appointed experts. Their position on most product categories is very middle of the road. Subscriber comments is just the beginning if they are to remain a relevant resource. Social media on the internet is changing the landscape of available opinions and resources.

Indeed - their criteria are also different from ours when it comes to TVs & Stereo gear - they are looking at the best overall value for money, least power usage, most reliable, etc... What we consider the best will almost never be their best as we are prepared to spend (usually) the extra $ to get the performance that is best, while they will always need to balance overall value, even if the difference is only 10% more to get a stunning 150% better product... etc, etc...
