michaelw Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Originally sold as a matched/mirror imaged pair. This auction has a pair of two right side speakers. Somewhere there must be a pair of two lefts ? Not the first time I've seen a mis-matched pair of speakers and probably won't be the last. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=327421283 Attached files
bizzar Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Unusual pair, I wonder where the other pair went off to. I remember auditioning a pair of these at Soundline Christchurch in 1990, a pretty well rated speaker then, sounded pretty good to me although didn't part any cash for them at the time.
dlewis Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 $90 buy now. What a bargin. I payed almost $2K for mine in the late 80's and they are still going strong today. Energy spent 1 million in developing the tweeters for these. The drivers and tweeters alone must be worth $90 and would make an excellent DIY project for amateur cabinet makers...
Guest Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Back in the mid-90s I paid ~$1k for a used pair of 22 References, still in use for HT. The million dollar tweeters weren't all that durable, both of mine have been replaced. Notice the seller said both his speakers have the same serial number ? My pair has sequential numbers for each speaker. Yours ?
TD19 Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Worth buying for the tweeters ... afaik they have been NLA for quite a long time. Axent repaired one of mine.
dlewis Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 My speakers are sequentially matched. I see they sold for the princely sum of $75. How depressing, mind you I have had almost 25 years of trouble free use from them and they have seen amps from Hafler, Naim, Quad, Technics and several Cyrus's and they still sound nicer than many new shop speakers that I've listened to, espesially when it comes to bass and authority. (IMHO) Should I spend some more money and upgrade to some Marc Vincent's?....:-P
