nixon76 Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 I just went to HN Mt Wellington to pass a few minutes whilst waiting for a wheel alignment. Wandered round the telly section, and wow, they are getting thin these days! Big 55-60 inch models, both LCD and plasma around an inch thick. Impressive. There was even a (thin) 55" LG model with edge to edge glass and a bezel (underneath the glass) of just under an inch. Impressive again (although it was 6k on run out ) Makes me feel old for some reason

Dunnersfella1553552754 Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Have you checked out the Samsung Series 9 LED LCD? It's edge lit... the picture seems a little 'meh' to my eyes... but WOAH it's thin! It's at least half the width of a ball point pen. For those people looking to make a design statement, it's just a stunning looking TV. The remote with the small touch screen that shows the programme on the tellie is pretty amazing... but being a wifi device, I'm guessing the remote will need constant charging. But seriously - if they get any thinner, it'll all get just a little pointless. Especially when you consider sound (of course, if you can afford a 9k LED, you can afford a decent home theatre system).
got tinnitus Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 It might be a whole 5 inches deep but I still sticking with my Pioneer 507. I've not seen another screen that betters it.....
AgrAde Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 I like my TVs like I like my audio gear - big and chunky, to the point where the "function over fashion" appearance has become a fashion in itself.
kaka Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 You haven't been watching those catwalks closely enough Nixon, VERY thin and VERY tall is in. Fail to see the attraction myself.

I've not seen another screen that betters it..... I agree, although maybe the 508 and 5010 or whatever superceeded the 508 before they became extinct. I had a 507 and now the 508, which shows some quite minor improvements, in some areas. Still nothing matches the Pioneers. 'twas a sad day when they died.
