Citroen Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Ok, so I've done a short but reasonably serious/thorough AB with and without the 5m Grado extension (Lehmann Black Cube headphone amp ex USB/HTPC, and RCA via VPI TT. Using Grado RS1i, AKG702, Senn 414SL and Sony MX71 and occassionally Schiit Valhalla amp.). I also found another Grado 5m extension so briefly tried piggybacking the two on some of the above variations. I was surprised at how little degradation in sound quality there was, TO MY EARS, IN mY SYSTEM. Generally, a bit of top roll off, and smearing but nothing too dramatic. With two extensions, I feared for the worse, but actually it seemed pretty much the same as with one extension. I'm so glad I don't have golden ears...!

That AT amp was most likely designed for low impedance cans like AT and Grado. Although you're much better of getting Grados to match the AT amp... Got it! Came with matched Raytheon tubes. Big improvement. I knew they needed more juice!
