i just had chris upgrade our revelation speakers to revelation 2, well almost to the 2s. he replaced the midrange driver with the new morel one,new crossovers and new cable, but i did not get the input terminals replaced.the old revelations were bloody good but the new ones are fantastic.it is amazing how replacing a midrange driver can make such a difference.there is some much more detail in the midrange.the biggest surprise is in how much the bass has improved,it is much easer to hear the different bass instruments.this is not just an upgrade,it like a new speaker

You always had a world class speaker ,now you have one of the best i have had the pleasure to sell over the last 22 odd years of being in the industry i have always promoted image as one of my best products and still rate them along side anything from overseas at double the price

Sadly overseas (or at least here in China) they are a lot more expensive than in NZ (understandably). Otherwise, there is a very good chance I would have Revelation 2s by now.

Here here! Iv'e possibly trudged around and heard 100 or more Speakers the last couple of days here and I can honestly say that only a rare handful of transducers I've experienced come up to or exceed the latest incarnations of

Ballys Image range.

Yes he is one of my oldest friends BUT he knows if I think what he is producing is not up to scratch i'll let fly with no holds barred.

Geez there's some adulterated Audio Product crap being touted in some of the worst setup rooms you'd ever want to hear in your life--I'll be summizing my thoughts and observations later at the conclusion of the show tomorrow.

Chris recently upgraded my 1998 Studio Refs (one of the first, he said and sold to me by Radar) and the difference is just lovely. When I first got them home there was a period where my ears were getting used to the changes and I couldn't put my finger on where the improvements were but like the OP's, my bass end has more information and is appreciably punchier. (Chris replaced something in the crossover and all the internal cabling.)

For the extremely modest outlay it is indeed like new speakers! :D

I'm a very happy camper.

I've been think of getting the plinth retrofitted to my revs. I'd heard there are performance benefits but now you've sparked my interest in the mid range driver replacement.

I've been very impressed with the revs. And as said many times before, in NZ you can't touch them for the price. If I had any criticism (if you could call it that) of them it would be that they have what I consider a very 'monitor' style sound. I've always wondered about the mid driver, knowing how good the tweeter is. After being exposed to the likes of living voice and harbeth boxes I've always thought my perfect speaker would be the revs with slightly more personality (dare i say colour). Perhaps a mid range change, crossover tweaking and that plinth might just be enough.

May I enquire the estimated cost of upgrade 2 the 2s?

it was around $1500.if you are going to do it you should know the new midrange speaker is smaller so you end up with a gap around the new driver.i cut some balsa wood to fit this gap and painted it black so it looks like part of the driver.also because the hole in the speaker is a bit big the screws holding the driver on do not have much wood to screw into and some might not grip.i cut a piece of mdf to fit the hole 5 mm wide and glued it in. the screws now grip.

Due to homebrew's note on Audioenz I have been asked by a few Rev owners whether they can have their speakers upgraded. I have done this for him as a 'oncer' but will not change any more. As he noted, the cut-out hole for the original mid driver only leaves a minute bit of wood to secure the screws for the new one. He will have no problem, but I do not feel right in changing any more Rev's. I trust everyone interested in the change in mid drivers will understand my reservations here. For fear of repeating myself though, the new Morel mid driver in the Revelation2 is nothing short of phenominal.

I highly recommend all Image owners who have floorstanding models 412,414 and Revelation to fit the Image Accu-Bases (plinths). The difference in ALL areas of the frequency range is greatly improved (not trying to sound TOO enthusiastic here) and they really do transform the speakers. The cheapest upgrade you could ever invest in. Just $200/pr plus a bit of your time screwing them to the base of your speakers.

Chris, do you have any piccies of the plinths? I don't see any on the website and I would love to see photos of the plinth iteself and of a speaker before and after.

Hopefully a photo of the Accu-Base fitted to an Image 412 will appear with this text. Note that the brass spikes are not fitted at this stage.
