Gainz Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I have a complete, practically brand new RPM 5, sans the factory interconnect/ground cable. Can I use any old copper cable for a ground wire, and is length/gauge important? Most probably use DNM reson for the IC's, and I was just going to strip one side of some old 16gauge monster floating around the cable box... It's my first modern TT that has external female RCA and ground plugs.
little blue penguin Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Any bit of speaker wire should be fine for grounding, but try the TT without a ground wire first, as one may not be necessary.
little blue penguin Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I'm no longer a deity, just a humble registered user.
Citroen Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Maybe more system than TT dependent, but I found that I needed the ground loop on my RPM5. When I tried new interconnects I got a lot of low level hum, and random/stray buzzing sounds. The original Pro-ject RCAs came with a connected ground cable. Ended up stripping the ground cable off those to use as the earth. Got rid of all those strange noises.
