Picked up a 2nd hand copy of Hendrix- Isle of Wight on the way home tonight which has me scratching my head a little.

The outer sleeve looks like the usual Polydor item for this recording, printed in the UK, but both the front and rear Polydor logos have been covered by glued on stickers which dont seem possible to remove without damaging the jacket.

The lp its self has a shiney white label with no pressing info, just artist name, song listing and copyright controllers for the songs. Also noted on the label are stereo and 1971.

There appears to be a full set of production numbers stamped into the deadwax.

I know that many of the posthumous Hendrix releases have a tangled history to them but the Isle of Wight set was an official release on Polydor in the UK and other labels else where.

The most logical thoughts are promo or bootleg but the covered logos on the jacket are interesting and probably point away from either answer.

Any Hendrix expert have a solution.

No doubt there's more, but I have seen a bootleg entitled: Isle of Wight Volume 1: East Afton Farm – no idea if a Vol 2 ever appeared. The copy I saw many years ago also had a plain white label (and plain white cover with stuck-on photo of Hendrix). From memory only, tracks included Red House, Lover Man, Machine Gun and Freedom.

I really should've bought the disc back then.

As an aside – I was at the Isle of Wight for that music festival. On the day, Hendrix wasn't really on top form. Still, fond memories of my youth.

Yeah, first album pic is the one I remember – what a minefield for collectors! Easier to just stick with my fading memories!

the cover is the same as the 2nd one down but with the Polydor legend pasted over. The jacket looks legit with the UK printers name and correct cataloge numbers on it.

If you go to page1 of the listings in the link, down the page there is a pic of the usual Polydor orange label.

Mine is plain white, no manufacturing info, has the title,tk listing and producer the same but a cataloge number of 12345 A and B .

More research needed.

The record plays very well, but not a top Hendrix performance.

Most white label records are a promo but not sure if the one you have is?

I have a couple of promos and they all have label info on them and stamped as promo and or not for sale.
