Papa Hemi Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I have been meaning to do this for a while. I replaced the stock mat on my KD600 with a cork mat. 4.5mm cork, cut to same diameter as the original rubber one. Same height so no issues with cartridge geometry. The new mat doesn't have a insert area as does the rubber mat (as yet). Regardless of this I do imagine/sense a tightening of the bass, a bit more slam, and a cleaner sound overall. But then I could be just dreaming.
Graham D Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Put some 'spots' on it, I dare ya ! Graham.
guitardude Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Hi Jim, I've got a kenwwod too, where did you get the cork from ?
Graham D Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 N Z Gaskets have an extensive range of rubberised cork sheet including the 2mm thick that is recommended for turntable mats. You cannot buy direct from them but they supply Partmaster and BNT Automotive retail outlets. N Z Gaskets part # MP3202 is 2mm thick and 635mm X 380mm. Graham.

It is actually cut from a tile - 4.5 thick, so somewhat different to the 2mm rubberised stuff. I have a few sheets, more than happy to send one to a fellow kenwood user (KD600 w/ SME 3009 imp non detachable?). PM if interested.
