A bit of a cheeky one - anyone have an airport express they would lend me to convince the Missus that we have to have one? I might then be able to prise open the purse strings to purchase it!

If you have capability for optical audio in from the new Apple TV would this not be a good option? Cheaper and also allows for TV connectivity compared with the AE, which may help to loosen the purse strings some.

Hi Luis, apple tv would be a good solution but my tv and hifi are in different rooms and I do not have a DAC, yet, either. I am using a divide and conquer approach. I have a good shot at persuading her the Airport Express is worth it. Once I have that in, I can work on getting a DAC!

My wife is an avid iphone user and supporter so I expect her to love being able to walk around the house and change the track playing on the stereo.

How have you got things set up, music system-wise, to enable that to be done?

I may have an opportunity to score some more brownie points here ;)

Owen, there is a free application for the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch called 'Remote' that lets you control iTunes remotely.

Go to the App Store on the phone (or iTunes on your computer) and search for 'Remote'. It's an Apple branded app - has a big play button on it. Pretty easy to setup.

Thanks to Stuzzo, I have an airport express to trial. Setting it up wasn't too hard. First a hard reset - while it is plugged in, you press the tiny rest button for 10 seconds. Then you open the airport utility and follow the instructions to connect the airport express to your existing wireless network. Or something like that because I gave up after several attempts and my wife ended up doing it while I was out of the room (she is more attuned to apple stuff). After downloading the remote app you add a library and key in the passcode in Itunes on your computer. Then you can select tunes from your itunes library and send them to your computer, your stereo, or both! Very cool! Now to work on the rest of the plan, thanks Ernie!
