bazza hallward Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Hi After all the talk, and a 20% off deal at LV Martin's a couple of weeks ago, I splashed out on the Panasonic Plasma 42 inch V20. I knew that it could record TV onto a USB drive, but I thought it would work on a USB stick - which it doesn't. The USB HDD recommended on their website is not available in NZ. Has any owner of a v20 tried recording to USB, and if so what kind of drive do you have?
Guest Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 is your stick correctly formatted ? A lot of these things only work with FAT formatting.
bazza hallward Posted September 14, 2010 Author Posted September 14, 2010 The Panny requires a USB 2.0 hard drive with capacity between 160G and 1T and with its own power supply. This means it has to be a external 3.5 inch hard drive with a separate power adaptor. The TV will automatically format the drive specifically for the TV - which means it can only be used by that TV (and no other). It also doesn't guarantee compatibility - therefore I am not keen on buying a hard drive for it unless I know it works. The Panasonic website states that it has been succesfully tested using a Buffalo DriveStation HD-CEU2-A3 Series http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/tv/compatibility/usb/option5.html I haven't found Buffalo drives in NZ, but they appear to be standard with generic brands of hard drives. So I was wondering if anyone had tried it yet before I splash out on another external HDD. Anyway its a great TV. The idea of the USB recording is great, but it isn't hugely useful in this case. If it worked with a USB flash drive, it would be great.
