shotokan Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Gidday folks. Due to an impending change of house, I'm forced to change my system. Size, or lack thereof, means I have to change amps, speakers and I'll probably relenquish my analogue gear... I'm looking at a simple digital set up, say an integrated valve amp, bookshelf speakers and sub. Basically a new set-up. So, any advice esp speakers would be greatly appreciated. If any dealers want to get involved please feel free to contact me. I don't want to trade down, just sideways. My first goal is to replace the speakers (with what I don't know) and I'm sure everything will follow - depending if I can trade gear, or sell on the open market etc. Cheers.
Ernie1553552694 Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 If you are getting bookshelf or standmount speakers then perhaps for your situation where you are going into a smaller space, sealed box or front ported designs would work well. Although the character of these speakers will be different from the "throatiness" of your Klipsch's. BTW, what is your budget?
nixon76 Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 When you say digital do you mean computer audio? But yes, budget would be good to know.
shotokan Posted September 12, 2010 Author Posted September 12, 2010 Source will be CD. I already have the 640c and works ok with one of Cloth_Ears power cables and the Komako. So for the mean time I'll stay with that. Don't yet know about the budget. Depends on what I can get for my gear, but all funds will go back into new eqpt. Main thing is to ensure quality is maintained, notwithstanding the trade-off's I will have to make, as you mention Ernie. At a glance a Tri integrated 45W amp and Usher standmount speakers look promising. Who knows? It's a bit frustrating, since I had my Slinky's repaired my system is sounding quite nice and I'm quite content - but things change. As it is in the new place, with room constraints I wouldn't even bother trying to set up the Klipsch, it's too small. In fact it's so tight I'll be ditching the rack, hence why the TT etc is going. Jees, this is depressing.
Ernie1553552694 Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 That Usher and Tri look like a good combo. If it's the 718s you'll be sorted.
shotokan Posted September 12, 2010 Author Posted September 12, 2010 Ernie, yes 718's on the possible wish list. Cheers.
Electra Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Small Sonus Faber speakers ( cue, Aaron D here ) and a nice perreaux Silhouette system.... Or possibly some of Chris Ball's ( Image ) finer stand mounts? How about some Petite performers, and if you ever need more bass, for say, a different room, add the MASS module...
Ernie1553552694 Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 I think if there is a CDP going in, then a full width amp would sit ok on a shelf? But the Image Petites offer you flexibility if your room expands again.
