Saw this Aussie flick yesterday. Never read the books so no idea how they compare. Was a decent flick, very much in the same vein as Red Dawn, possibly slightly better.

 

Couple of the teen actors need serious couching, but probably an issue with direction.

 

Also the movie leaves you wanting more because nothing much actually happens. Bit of character building, bit of discovery of the enemy, and one very short attack scene. The most exciting part is watching the Aussie Hornet get taken out by 3 'coalition' (Chinese???) fighters.

 

Other issue in the massive jump in the direction of female empowerment. Even with the director being male, all of the strong leads, and focus, in the movie are female, with the males generally being sex obsessed pubescent teens (which is probably true). Only the females seem to do any of the actual work. At least in Red Dawn there was some equality.
