Declannz Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Sorry. Need to vent. If you buy something and pay the money, then have no contact for two weeks and don't receive the item, seller doesn't respond to emails, you leave bad feedback, right? Why the hell would a seller, who has your money and the item and has been a dick, leave you bad feedback in return? Sometimes life gets away on me when I'm trading and I justifiably get a blue or red face. This is understandable, but I never leave negative feedback unless it's justified. Even if someone gives me a negative, if I'm at fault I'll leave them positive feedback. It's only fair right?
AgrAde Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Just leave a response on your feedback explaining it. It's impossible to keep 100% good feedback even if you're totally awesome. People, unfortunately, are idiots.
Ernie1553552694 Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 Life doesn't come with idiot filters...
MosfetMainac Posted August 27, 2010 Posted August 27, 2010 If I dont have any luck contacting them, prior to bagging them I put neutral feedback along the lines of "Hi, have tried contacting several times but geting no replies, can you contact me on 021xxx as I don't seem to be getting any emails from you" They always respond to that! Sometimes it's totally legit, I had a fellow that replied immediately to every email I sent him and I never got one back, hell of a nice fellow too. Because he only had my Email address he had no other way of contacting me. But yeah, good ones and bad ones.
steverb Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 This 'tit for tat' back feedback is a big problem on trademe. Its got to where many now admit they wont post bad feedback on bad traders through fear of having unjustifed bad feedback placed back against them. This has happened to me,placed bad feedback on a idiot non paying buyer & got 3 back feedbacks in return (3x items). However, when an trademe a/c is suspendended/disabled, all the bad feedbacks they placed are magicly removed by trademe. Its a matter of deciding, do I do nothing & keep my good feedback rating, or post some bad feedbacks & risk getting tit for tat red face feedback. I think if a trader is a idiot, then I have a duty to place approriate feedback as a warning to others dealing with him.

Ernie1553552694 Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 You'd think so, but there isn't an "idiot defeat" mode either in the feedback system.

The same thing happens on ebay, and it is acknowledged that the feedback system there is now pretty useless. This is what happens as online auction sites "mature", I guess.

This is what happens as online auction sites "mature", I guess. I'm in Roseburg, Oregon right now and there are lots of second hand stores here, which was a real surprise. I read somewhere ebay decided to start holding sellers funds for 4 or 6 weeks incase of "buyer remorse" or some such thing. I think the average joe has pretty much deserted the ship. It's likely to happen to Trademe too
Ernie1553552694 Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 It's too easy for people to let their online persona get away with behaviour that would otherwise be unacceptable in "real" life. I can see why face to face transactions are having a renaissance.
Stuzzo1553552685 Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I thought Ebay had gone to no negative seller feedback allowed? Trade Me haven't shown any interest in going the same way. Despite feedback issues which I've been bitten with just like the OP, on-line auctions are still great way of buying and selling. I bet a lot of the second hand stores mentioned do a lot of their business on-line.

Declannz Posted August 29, 2010 Author Posted August 29, 2010 Maybe it's a little like road rage. You can't see the other person and pick up on body language and the like, so you get irrationally shitty.
Ernie1553552694 Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I'm glad we have this forum. It's horrible when things get out of hand. And they do...

The shittiness is completely rational. The actions of some traders is completely irrational.Imagine someone crashing into your car then the front page of the herald says its your fault because the person who crashed into you has the right to do so.
Declannz Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 You have a point there. On a slightly related note, I've had three minor car accidents in my life. In all three I was stationary, in one case parked, and was reversed into by an old lady. On all three occasions it's been deemed my fault and I've have to pay the damages.
Guest Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 If you've placed positive feedback, haven't gotten any feedback in return, and the 45 day window has closed, is it kosher to remove the feedback you placed ?

Yip that's what I do and seems to work well as the blue face is reversible if it all works out.

Brian Ono Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Another interesting trader/ doesnt allow refunds on 2nd hand cds due to copyright law.

Seems increasingly common for professional sellers not to bother giving feedback.

Surely neg is resereved for situations when you don't receive your item, receive an item not working with no resoloution offered etc. Did you specify a time or let the seller know you were in a hurry ?? Just cause the transaction didn't happen in your timeframe ... did you really have to neg ? Maybe the seller had some problems outside his control ... ddi you think of that ? IME neg is the last resort All just IMO of ourse
Brian Ono Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I agree negative feedback should be the last resort ,but their are some unbelievably dodgy traders who seem to do this (not supply items) and get away with it
Declannz Posted August 31, 2010 Author Posted August 31, 2010 I gave the man two weeks after I'd paid. I sent a couple of short, polite emails asking if the money had cleared and got no response at all. When I left neg feedback he responded pretty much instantly asking me to remove it. He was very pissy about it but offered no explanation or apology then left me negative feedback. I never tried to hurry him either. All I was concerned with was that the money had cleared and my end of the transaction was complete. After all this, turns out the motherboard (the item) is rooted anyways.
