My old fountain, on TV duty, has a scratchy volume control. I need to address this rather than saying, "I've gotta fix that!" every time I turn it on.

Q. What is the best way to fix a scratchy pot?

I have no proprietary solution for this, but I have WD40, turps, meths, soaps of various types and water in the tap.

Any assistance gratefully received.

WD40 will probably work (it's a pretty aggressive cleaner/lubricant) but I'm afraid that it will leave an unwanted messy residue & possible long term problems, eg. risk of shorting.

Unfortunately, a low-residue, light cleaner suitable for non-metal surfaces (ie. a carbon wiper track) should be used... such as one of the Caig products, eg. Faderlube

CRC attracts dust, so graphite spray should be used instead.

That's for locks anyway. :o

Sorry to be off subject, but the title of this thread just makes me laugh....

Same! Then I read the first line "My old fountain..." hahahaha

Sorry Papa H for going off topic, but I have always used a switch cleaner like the one crc has, seems to work ok.

thanks for the feedback.

The title is intended to amuse and catch the attention, however "my old fountain..." was unintentional but fortunate.

Im pulling my fountain...

CRC make a product called 'Precision CO Contact Cleaner' which is the best stuff for the task.

Spray into the pot, from inside the chassis, and turn the pot rapidly as many times as you can handle.

But- I recommend replacing it with a sealed unit and not have to worry about it untill 2030.
