piscator Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can't get the BD85 to locate the Media Player on my laptop. BD85 is connected wireless, Media Player 12 is set to stream, when I go into the BD85 DLNA setup is does not locate anything.........what have I missed here? cheers
piscator Posted August 16, 2010 Author Posted August 16, 2010 Problem solved, turned out the virus protection Kapersky was blocking access. Funny thing is that now I have discovered that it does not support music streaming via DLNA????????????????? Can anyone confirm that this is indeed the case.
Boris1553552671 Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 I've read a couple of reviews that say the BD85 is DLNA certified and supports streaming of music and photos, but not video. Does that help or confuse, I'm not home network literate  I can pull up the reviews again if you want the links. Unless NZ model doesn't have this feature? Rick Haywood, a manager at Panasonic is an Audioenz member and answers these questions now and again. Member link if you want to try a PM: http://www.audioenz.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=359 Cheers, B
piscator Posted August 16, 2010 Author Posted August 16, 2010 Cheers Boris, I have sent a PM to Rick and hopefully he will be able to clarify. I will keep you posted.
XOtago Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 From what I have read in the Viera range of plasmas ( i don't have networking yet til i buy the BD85) they only DLNA video files not music. I assume the blu rays would be similar. Cheers

The opposite to their plasma  I guess Panasonic want you to buy both http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/blu-ray-players/panasonic-dmp-bd85-674973/review http://www.trustedreviews.com/home-cinema/review/2010/02/13/Panasonic-DMP-BD85-Blu-ray-Player/p1 http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/blu-ray-players/panasonic-dmp-bd65-blu-ray-player-691521/review?artc_pg=2 Piscator, could your Media Player be the issue, with the BD85 thinking it's video? Sorry if that's a daft thought, I said I know nothing about streaming XOtago, the decent thing to do to help a fellow Audioenzer would be buy the BD85 NOW Cheers, B
XOtago Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 forgot to mention that they are supposed to do to jpeg files too. (Boris, would love to buy one now but the divorce costs would be prohibitive) Cheers
johnnyrs Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 jpeg files are fine on mine for streaming over my wireless network but mp3s and videos are not. MP3s and videos are found but show as 0 seconds!! Not sure of all the file formats but the BD85 will only play certain formats (including MP3) from its USB port and won't play them from a network source.
piscator Posted August 17, 2010 Author Posted August 17, 2010 I can view photos. Reading the small print in the manual pg 24 it says "Discs or music can not be played", but reading the reviews you have linked they do say that you can play music, maybe that only applies to overseas models or maybe they have just assumed that it does just like I did.
johnnyrs Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Maybe Rick from Panasonic is around to clarify how/what the BD85 processes, network wise....?
Wolfman1553552686 Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I can stream most (but not all) videos, but not music or pictures.
PNZ Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Okay, sorry for the late response, I have been frantically busy on some large projects for the last few months. I have consulted the appropriate Oracles and the chicken's intestines confirm that the BD85 cannot stream music over the DLNA. This is despite what some reviewers may say.
XOtago Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 on a brighter note the pansanic plasma v series can stream mp3 thru ps3 media server:-) (as well as divx/avi and jpegs:-)
Dunnersfella1553552754 Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I was about to add that... I use Twonky Media Server, and can stream mp3's, jpegs and Divx / AVI files to my V20 plasma. The BluRay players seem to be capped in their streaming ability somewhat. Kinda gutting.
