Gopal Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 hey everyone, on the lookout for a cheap and preferably small integrated or power amp. This is just for use on my DJ setup with a small pair of monitor audio bookshelves. Doesn't need alot of power and space is an issue so the smaller the footprint the better. Appreciate any help/ideas Cheers, Gopal
Owen Y Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 My son just got some small active spkrs for his DJ rig. (Ditched my Celef Monitors which have given good service for 30yrs!)
Declannz Posted August 9, 2010 Posted August 9, 2010 I've got one of these in the kitchen. Good little 30 watt machine. Mostly re-capped and perfectly functional. Might part with it for $100 if you were interested. http://www.classicaudio.com/value/pio/SA700.html
Gopal Posted August 10, 2010 Author Posted August 10, 2010 Thanks for the replies... I've already got the speakers Owen...that's why I'm looking for an amp. I've got active Dynaudio 2.1 in the studio but I don't wanna spend that kinda money on this setup right now...And cheap actives are just that...cheap. Looks interesting Declannz, looks quite large though...Would probably cost a bit to ship up here too. I'll keep it in mind though
Declannz Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 It's only a baby. a good one though. these do sound surprisingly nice. It's got pre ins and outs, even an mm/mc switchable phono section. it's got odd speaker connectors though. I just shove bare wire in the sockets. If you wanted to get all fancy you could use spade connectors. $110 shipped to your door.
Gopal Posted August 11, 2010 Author Posted August 11, 2010 Tempting...Very tempting, it's got a nice oldschool look about it too... I take it you're not it a great hurry to get rid of it... It's the best option I've seen so far but I'm not quite ready to jump.
Declannz Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Not in a hurry to get rid of it, but some quick cash would be good. Pay day is a long way off and I'm a little skint. It's entirely up to you though. Do your research, make sure it's the right machine for the job.
Papa Hemi Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Far out Gopal - I'd leap if I could possibly get away with it. A great deal.... Wondering...
gooki Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 HASAudio are looking at bringing in a 2x50 watt mini amp - nice and small, well priced ($135), should be perfect for what you require.
Gopal Posted August 13, 2010 Author Posted August 13, 2010 I know it's a great offer papa Hemi but space is a serious consideration... More info please gooki... PM me if you want.
Declannz Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 now I'm curious about the mini amp too... :-) If anyone wants the SA700, just flick me an email.
steverb Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 try Jaycar for a prebuilt chipamp http://www.jaycar.co.nz/productView.asp?ID=AA0472&keywords=amp&form=KEYWORD
curiousgeorgenz Posted August 15, 2010 Posted August 15, 2010 Not small, http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics-photography/Home-audio/Amplifiers-tuners/auction-310032685.htm but could be cheap. Quite well rated in it's day.
Antipodes1553552706 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Small means T-amp, or even a D like the Icon but price is going to be the problem there I suppose.
Gopal Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 Well, it either needs to be small, or industrial tough. This is for the play room and I don't want something I have to be precious about. I'd hook them up to the Linn Classik I have stored away otherwise. This is for DJing and doesn't need to go terribly loud cause it's not a big room, so I either want something small I can tuck away, or something industrial I can stack stuff on top of... Thanks for the replies so far, getting some good ideas. Keep em comin

Paradox1553552678 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I guess I'd be looking at something like the Tangent Ampster or the Trends Audio TA-10. I've heard both, and owned one, and they are both great little products.
Guest Guest Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Hi Gopal. My 10 watt Kama Bay T-Amp drove those Monitor Audios very well indeed. I got mine for $160 from Stereotype. The Kama Bay was reviewed favorably on TNT Audio when compared with the aforementioned Trends Audio TA-10 which is more than twice the price.
