WI=3 Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 In the last 48 hours I have made two discoveries: 1) I should have bought a "proper" record cleaning machine years ago. I just purchased a VPI 16.5 and even my newer records sound better after its cleaning. I feel somewhat sad that I traded about 50 LPs a month ago at Real Groovy. I have always been careful with cleaning and have been using a Knosti disco-antistat cleaner but the VPI is noticeably superior (admittedly at many times the cost). One of the best value upgrades I have ever made. 2) I have a friend with an almost identical system to mine, even down to the cables, yet they sound quite different. Last night I removed the Black Diamond pyramid racing cones and their BD blocks from under the Plinius SA100 and went back to basic metal cones. The sound cleaned up hugely, not a small change at all, although the jury is still out as I am not sure about the pace.Top end was cleaner, and mids a little less warm. The BD cones are the Mk3s which are intended to warm up transistors, so I am tempted to order some Mk4s which are meant to be faster to go under valves. I was not aware that the Plinius was so susceptible to the feet so this will make for some interesting listening tests. Has anyone got any other recommendations for isolating feet/cones for the Plinius?
