Tinobambino1553552743 Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 My list also would be very different, but I do have 17 of the albums listed.
kiwizig Posted August 4, 2010 Author Posted August 4, 2010 No Frank Zappa on the list? what about "Shut Up And Play Your Guitar", "Hot Rats" and "Sheik Yerbouti"

In my defence, I do have some of the artists listed on different albums though. Cheers, Shane.
Guest Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Gosh, I have 21 of the albums. Not bad for someone who is not a guitar nut.

chiba Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I've got 15, but Bowie?! There's oddness in that list, but definitely can't say that they mostly played Gibsons...

Frank Zappa You might not have expected the man who titled his songs “But Who Was Fulcanelli?” and “Theme from the 3rd Movement of Sinister Footwear” to take his job all that seriously. But with Zappa, the absurdity was just a front for his unflinching dedication to his craft. He didn’t swing wildly from nagging doo-wop melodies to improvisational freakouts to be funny, but because he could. Go back and listen to his willful solos or anything he did with Mothers of Invention and discover how bound and determined he was to make music matter. – Aidin Vaziri
Brian Ono Posted August 5, 2010 Posted August 5, 2010 I think Frank Zappa should be further up the list .Oasis and the Pistols I would move further down.
Guest Guest Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I would remove Oasis from the list. I would remove Oasis from the face of the Earth..........

shotokan Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 It's a crime against humanity that Mick Jones is not included...
foveaux Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 27. As others have noted - some obvious omissions and the poll is clearly biased to rock. Like chiba, I thought it was a poll for Gibson guitarists - until I spotted the guy on the Van Halen album cover (which I will not own) with a Fender..then, Hendrix, Clapton et.al. all uses/d Fenders. Points off... no Paul Kossoff (Free), Joe Walsh (James Gang) Steve Howe (Yes), Richard Thompson and most astoundingly (as spotted by kaka) no Rory Gallagher, Ry Cooder ?
maxgate Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 foveaux;129765 wrote: 27. As others have noted - some obvious omissions...Steve Howe (Yes) After feeding my teen ears with Yes I fasted after the Punk era. Recently I listened to Yes again. Despite Jon Anderson's propensity for incoherent lyrics, they're a dynamic band and Steve Howe's guitar is masterful. There's some revisionism in the Gibson rankings. Wikipedia notes: 'Howe was voted "Best Overall Guitarist" in Guitar Player magazine five years in a row (1977 - 1981) and was inducted into Guitar Player's "Gallery of Greats" in 1981. The only other two guitarists to win the "Best Overall Guitarist" category for the "Gallery Of Greats" are Steve Morse and Eric Johnson. Gibson Guitar Corporation, the maker of Howe's second electric guitar (which he was still playing forty years later), said that Howe "elevated rock guitar into an art form" and "helped define a new style of music known as art rock." In a tribute to Howe and his personal favourite ES-175 guitar, Gibson produced a Steve Howe Signature ES-175 in 2002. Rolling Stone ranked him number sixty-nine on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of all Time in 2003.'
