ziffle Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 The cue mechanism is very tight and will not lower on it's own (has to be pushed down). I want to clean it and re-oil it, has anyone done one of these, got any tips? Can it be done in situ or does the arm need to come out of the tt? cheers
Owen Y Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Usually the piston cylinder unit is held in place with just a wee hex grub screw. But first try rotating/moving the lift platform (the pc coming out of the middle of the cylinder) a bit to free it up. Best to avoid taking the unit out if you can, otherwise you'll have to set up its precise height again.
joe90 Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Hi Zif what has probably happened is that the grease in the mechanism has gone abit hard the rega's have a slotted cam and usually these start to wear and the cue lever will drop by itself i would get a can of penetrene or wd40 and just spray the piston with it and let it run into the mech after a couple of squirts work the unit up and down a few times it shoulod eventually free up i prefer them stiffer as the loose ones always drop to quickly or wont stay up by them selves [advertising deleted-Moderator] best of luck Radar
ziffle Posted August 2, 2010 Author Posted August 2, 2010 Cheers Radar I wondered if I could try that - seems the simplest solution at first glance
shotokan Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Ziffle, This may or may not help. http://www.pinkfishmedia.net/forum/archive/index.php/t-57809.html The Rega manual says this should be done by a Rega dealer. I think if the spring pops you could be in trouble. Ashley Brookes (Brooks?) is good on T.T's and a good bloke, always looked after me. Anyways, good luck.
