bluedog Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Sorry about the long title  but i had one of the most interesting weekends full of new experiences. For one i finally heard vinyl sound "dynamic" still i don't think i will go there at this stage but the most amazing thing i heard was the difference in interconnects. Now i have long been reading about the title's content and thought yea but if your speakers /amp/pre etc are not up to it you wont get a bing difference well i don't mind admitting i was well wrong. But the thing is all the components were the same it was the S#%t in the middle that had such a large profound change in the sound, if i had not sat there being tortured with the same bright horrible track i would have sworn someone had come in and change my speakers. I have been so up and down with the sound they make in my room that i was contemplating getting rid and trying something else. When Mark started on "fixing" my problems he put on a disc that he is very familiar with and some tracks sounded great but some, ummm were is that remote i need to turn it down. One track had some sweet electric guitar and sounded stunning for about a minute then it cuts loose rips your ears out and one had a base that made my speakers go all flabby horrible, i was embarrassed to tell the truth and the last had female vocals that sounded like she had a ringing sound around her voice hard to explain not good. Well over the course of the afternoon he had me pull that heavy dam unit out at least 10 times to change things, first was the mid range interconnect then the base finally the treble each time we sat back and played the same tracks.By the end of the arvo we could all say that the said tracks were now very listnable the harsh one why still in your face was now quite smooth in comparison the one for the base was very deep base but under control and the vocal track was well sweet.I guess you guys all new this so did i but didn't think it would be so noticeable in making the s%$t go away i would have thought to tame the treble put a cable in that would restrict it in some way but no it certainly does not restrict just make every thing come into focus so to speak sorry about the rave but i am a very happy camper well for a week at least until i have to send them back, need to start saving . I did try a power conditioner the other week and yes it did make it sound less harsh but this is different more sparkle than i have ever heard from my system so if you are like i getting ready to sell something because you cant seam to tame it consider trying some different interconnect i think you will be pleasantly surprise as i was
aarond1553552714 Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Oh yeah, it's pretty awesome when you experience it in your own system - no sales pressure required... I reckon it's best when you don't even feel the need to convince anyone around you not your mates, your partner. You just sit there love every minute of it. Start saving, you'll be trying to convince yourself you don't need them, once they go back...

Yea not looking forward to the end of the week my have to rob a bank they would be staying but not sure how this next part of the recession is going to treat us ,at the moment we stand to loose 50% of our business over night to the Aussie's ,our government makes me wonder most of the time

Hi Steve a bit of a difference we started the day with these between my Pre and power as i had them left over when i changed to HDMI and they suited because i tri amp my Perreaux 6160 http://www.pudneyandlee.co.nz/?action=show_part&part_no=14116.I had my Antipodies Katipo http://www.antipodesaudio.com/katipo_ic.html between the dvd player and the amp. The first change Mark made was to change the Katipo out for a Magnan http://www.trademe.co.nz/Electronics-photography/Home-audio/Cables/auction-306527924.htm and put another between the pre and power on the midrange amp. We had a listen and this made the biggest difference as i think the mid is the most important and replacing the pudney cable is probably what was most evident. The next change was to replace the base pudney with the Katipo this again really helped tighten the base very nice.I had a mate over as well and he kindly brought one of these http://www.kubala-sosna.com/audio-cables/fascination/index.htm and we slipped it into the treble now this really did sound nice it gave my system sparkle that i just had not heard. So all in all an interesting day pity i cannot afford them just yet. I took the magnan's out yesterday and sent them back so i put the katipo onto the mid range duty's and the kubala's between the pre and the dvd player not bad but the treble and imaging was no were as good and the base not as tight. So the answer for me is to start saving again as i think that you can spend a small fortune on components and not get the full benefit with skimping on the bits between
Shane Hanify Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Gidday B_D, and that is exactly why I cap my cable spends It is fun going up the food chain though. Cheers, Shane.
eRaS1553552749 Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Have you thought about upgrading the Katipo's to the Komako's? Not a minor upgrade imo, and excellent value for money. I thought myself that I might need a copper IC, but I still ended up going back to the Komako's for their clarity and speed.

I do like what the single katipo does so can only imagine what they sound like
