Citroen Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Which do you own? How often do you use them? Amped/unamped? Home or on the run?
Citroen Posted July 18, 2010 Author Posted July 18, 2010 Geez, Nix, you're too quick. Gotta add the thread first. And only then can I add the poll!
Shane Hanify Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Gidday Cliff, so this is a clayton's poll? AKG k171s. Portable amped, mp3 player. Several hours a day during the week. Work. Occasionally they'll get plugged in at home to whatever headphone socket is available to them. (AVR / DVDP / Breakout box on the small media PC). Cheers, Shane.
martyyn Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 My kind of thread Koss PortaPro. Use them for a couple of hours every week day whilst at work. No amp just straight from my iPod touch. Sometimes at home if I'm on my own and want better sound than the dock we have in the kitchen and occasionally at the gym.
Citroen Posted July 18, 2010 Author Posted July 18, 2010 Polls active guys & gals Make your choices. Cheers
Neal1553552750 Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Koss Porta pros, Mainly off Laptop (SoundBlaster) a few times a week.
LHH Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Sennheiser and Denon mostly (but some others occasionally as well). Both on the run (direct from the Cowon) and at home and office (from a headamp). Everyday. Would love to hear a pair of Beyerdynamic T1's, and am kinda tempted to buy some sight unseen...
whale Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 PX100 and Westone UM3 from iPhone - Near daily SR60 for bedtime listening - occasionally 2-3 times a week K701 from a Darkvoice head amp - near daily ATH-ES7, ATH-SQ5 and SuperFi5 Pro's get no use anymore
SugdenA21 Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Have had and enjoyed, Grado SR60, Senn HD650, AKG 702 - all had different strengths and weaknesses. I'm now using 160gb ipod classic with Fiio E1 amp, and UE TripleFi Pro10 IEM's for most of my headphone listening. I could hear improvements in going from the entry level Grados to the 650s and AKGs even with the humble Fiio amp (but even more noticeable with the Beresford DAC headphone output).
XOtago Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 SR60s and HD595s sat on headphone stand for last year without being touched:-( HD650s via XCanV3 almost daily for 1-2 hours:-) (Cheers Sugden A21 for the HD650s -still getting regular use!) Michael
Electra Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 I bought some HD650's to see if I could get into headphone listening, and also because I needed something for my Ipod when overseas last. They got a fair bit of use when travelling. Now I am home, the only time I have used them is for playing games. I just don't like the musical experience anywhere near as much with headphones.

I respectfully suggest that you need an amp to make music on a pair of 650s.
Electra Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Its nothing to do with an amp - I was lent a little dot mk3 which made the 650s sound better - but still did not give them the ability to not be felt, nor the ability to get the feeling of listening to music the way speakers do. I don't have the issue with needing to be able to enjoy my music at low volumes so as to not disturb others. Their great for bad company 2 however. Good on the Ipod also although I need to get a portable headphone amp to get the most out of it, as I sent the Nuforce Icon mobile back to my brother.

whale Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 But it's always nice to have them around in case I DO want to listen to them Whenever that is..

Ah well, don't take it too hard....I'm not a never... just a hardly...like too_tall, I find lugs and speakers much better... use Technics and Sony headphones, mainly used when checking/setting up tape decks..( along with a T-100, gauges and various test tapes).. otherwise headphone listening is the quickest way to send me to sleep Mind you not contradicting myself, I am thinking about upgrading to something better, and maybe a more pleasurable experience could come from that!.. for use when the grandson is in town........
Mike128 Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Sennheiser HD595 Stax Lambda Nova Signature Stax Omega II The Stax both have dedicated amps/driver units, though I can't recall the numbers. Both the Omegas and Senns see daily use (normally); the Stax on my bedside table and the Senns paired with a Rio Karma for work. The Lambdas used to fill the position now occupied by the Omegas and don't see a great deal of use anymore. Don't get me wrong, they're a fine headphone; light, airy and wonderful on strings (akin to the 701s, but on a higher plane IMO). But the Omegas are simply sublime  I really can't justify two pairs of Stax in the house when I'm desperate for a new CD player, so I'll probably be passing them on shortly
Citroen Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Mike128, not only do you own my favourite Senn model but you have a spare pair of lambda's. I've only ever heard an early version of the Lambda's but really liked what I heard. I really rate the 701's (on a lot of certain types of music that I like). SO very interested in the nova's. Go buy that CD player...NOW!
Mike128 Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Ah, but that would be to put the cart before the horse - I need to be sure that I can move the Stax before I can take the plunge on a player. Looks as though there may be a bit of interest though That said I'm rueing my decision to pass on a Meridian 507 a couple of weeks ago. Them's the breaks though. I need to build up a few posts so that I can post in the BST to see what's available here. The Senns are great aren't they? I find them glued to my head most of the day when I'm at work
