Hi

Bear with me for what might be a silly question....

My girlfriend purchased a Samsung Plasma with Freeview tuner built in...she has a Sony DVD recorder with HDMI out and will connect the two with a Monster HDMI.

The TV won't be unpacked until renovations are complete...do inbuilt Freeview tuners have an output (standard def or hi def) to allow the DVD recorder to get a better signal that the current analogue?

Or is the only option for the DVD recorder to get a separate Freeview box?

Sorry. You gotta get another tuner. Those tellies weren't designed to output a signal. I guess she wants to keep a recording. If so then a Pana DVD recorder is probably the way to go.

If she can exchange goods, it might be easier in the long run.

Are any TV's with built in Freeview able to output a signal?

Are DVD/HDD recorders a thing of the past, with PVR's taking their place?

I don't understand what you mean re the Panasonic DVD recorder.

LOL - it's Plasma I mean - wish I could edit the thread subject!

The new crop of Freeview PVRs don't have a DVD writer to burn material onto, hence my Pana suggestion. If keeping a copy is not critical then just get one of the Freeview PVRs. I know this is counterintuitive, but I'd get a panel without a tuner. Or even an older model with an analogue tuner. It would be as cheap as chips.

There is a suggestion going around at the moment that Freeview are updating the spec of MyFreeview DVRs to allow archiving to USB. This will be at the discretion of the broadcaster though.

Doesn't help you much but if you want to record IMO a PVR is a MUCH better system than the older style recorders. Once you've had a PVR with EPG/series link functionalitu you'll never ever go back. I know it sounds like I'm a fan boy - I am!
