This makes me so sad. I'm surprised that there's a Dunedin one before a Christchurch one.

We have nothing (except TW and Marbecks, which isn't that great...) down here so it is a market ripe for taking...

Yes, Hamilton store is excellent, as is Wellington and Queen St!

Best news of the day...:)

I'm not familiar with this store so I looked at the JB Hi-Fi website and from what I could see they just look like another Harvey Norman's with the inclusion of CD's and DVD's! Certainly wasn't anything particularly 'Hi-Fi' about what I saw! That said, I'll go and have a look-see when they arrive. The proof will be in the pudding no doubt.

They have an impressive & extensive CD/DVD/BluRay range and their prices for them are the cheapest I've seen in a physical store.

Hardware wise they are pretty similar to a lot of places.

I find this interesting from their website:

"We have, and always will negotiate a reasonable price with you if any competitor is crazy enough to attempt to undercut us at JB."

I'm planning on buying an expensive DSLR soon so this may come in handy.

I was in the Queen St store on Sunday with the kids looking for a DVD for them. I was chatting to a mate on the phone - asking him if he knew the name of a movie about a dog with super powers. While I was talking to him a staff member came up and handed the movie to me!

Impressive

I hope their range is as good as the Hamilton store's.

Be interesting to see the effect it has on Marbeck's.

I think JB will do very well in Dunedin.

Will ceedee all over the store now known as "marbecks". Go for range and keen price of music, not electronics - 'cept laptops.

Now that the Warehouse has killed off most of the Cd retail in the country by selling music as a loss leader (at cost or less) and adding to "devaluing of music", the WH is now going out of music. Must have found another loss leader....cheap chinese hi fi maybe?
