Declannz Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Hi guys, I've picked up an A1 that seems to be in going condition, only someone has busted the input selector really badly, so it needs a new one. It's the internal proprietary pot that's destroyed, so if anyone has a dead A1 they wouldn't mind parting out I'd appreciate it.
Guest Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 One of the greatest regrets of my reviewing life was when I had the A1 in for review. It ran so hot that I wanted to crack an egg on top of its "waffle" top heatsink and see how long the egg took to cook. I regret that I never did so. btw, does anyone have an A1 that they could loan me for a short time?
Declannz Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Yeah, the A1 did that. I'm going to convert this one into a sleeper. Might find a nice old Sansui or Marantz receiver that's completely shot, rip the guts out and place the A1 in that. That'll allow me to slap an appropriate heat sink on it and some decent supply caps. apart from the fact that the input selector and tape monitor switch are broken, and that the case is banged all to hell, it looks to be in really good shape for one of these. the power amp section shows no sign of stress or setting itself on fire, which these were really prone to. Once the project is finished I may be able to lend it to you. Might not work if you want something to cook your eggs on though.

Guest Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 If I do ever get an A1 for a cooking demonstration I'll video the results. I won't promise to eat the cooked egg though!

Anyways, for some reason the input selector isn't the part, or one of the many parts, that fail, so there should be one with aburned out amp section somewhere that can spare the pot. failing that, anyone got an old receiver or something retro looking that I can gut and use to house this thing?
MosfetMainac Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Do you have a pic and value of the pot? I might have something ferreted away that may suit?...
Declannz Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Nah. Thanks anyway. It's a kind of proprietary switching pot that had a PCB mounted on the back and unfortunately the whole thing is missing, except the PCB which someone has solder a bunch of wire on to in a dodgy, half-assed fashion. If you go here you'll see it in the third pic down.
