Hi all, I have a friend who has a set of these in a pair of rather large ( homebuilt ) cabinets. They have a tweeter, through first order crossover ( cant get a good look at the tweeters without removing them )

The 12" drivers appear to be in very good order, and are bloody sensitive ( he has run them on an old Fountain 10-10 amp of mine, and it is pretty damn loud in a 5*6m room. They sound pretty decent actually. Remarkably good for the very average front end ( xbox mediacenter ) actually.

Are these drivers valuable and if so, would anyone be interested? he is finding their a bit on the large size for his lounge.

Dredging the far reaches of the memory banks, that is a full range 12" driver , 30-40W rated.. but am often wrong :D, tweeter just to fill out the top above 6 or 7K perhaps.........think it has a dual/whizzer cone...

I've always found Philips drive units to be good to excellent. Wouldn't have a clue as to value though, but would think they may be of interest to someone with a passion for older gear ;).. such as that fountain...

I've a couple of pair of the old philips full-rangers, a 10" Hi-Z, and 12" 8ohm, The 12" sounded quite good in OBs, but I haven't had the chance to do much else with them. They do have a good rep amongst some groups, and I do recall seeing a pair on TM go to an Aussie buyer for $200+ (silly money I thought, considering I paid $30 for mine) however they were doctored (doped cones). I have the passion, but not the space, time or license from SWMBO.

Is the old Fountain worth much? Its got scratchy pots. I was wondering about maybe making an al cheapo vintage rig with that and the Philips wideranges, but to be honest, I dont have the space or the time to do that. The Fountain surely would benefit from new valves and some contact cleaner in the pots!

The cabinets their in at the moment would be a good meter tall, 500 deep and maybe 700 wide. Big volumes! Maybe I should get them home for a play. I already have about 6 pairs of speakers in the house, another pair surely wont hurt!

Old valve Fountains do seem to have a bit of a following... IIRC seem to clock around the ton and more, on trademe if in good nick. A shot of cramolin in the pots would be definitely worth a go.
