got tinnitus Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Photo taken off Vintage Audio World dot com e-shop page. Some cat in Germany is well sorted. Attached files
nixon76 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Now that's what I'm talking about. I was only thinking the other day that if I won lotto I'd get some massive inwall horns made (protuding out the back of the wall as much as needed).....
Gainz Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Check out the wicker listening chair - is that the comfiest listening chair this guy can afford? Surely not. Whats the TT?
Ernie1553552694 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Pretty amazing. The setup should present an amazing soundstage amongst other things.

Ernie1553552694 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 I wasn't going to go there tonight. But now that you mention it, they kind of remind me of reaallly big phones or monitors. There would be f*** all room reflections. It looks more like a bodyphone chamber.
bigburner Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 The best news is that his wife just loves the setup and wishes those recesses were larger. Nigel.
Nak-Mad Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Actually it is not an Audio set up at all ... what you can see are the vectored thrust nozzels of the latest German attempt at a audio research, a dual channel wind tunnel if you like, which was designed to study the ability of the LP system to reproduce music when subjected to extreme wind velocity and turbulence.. ie: as occurs during hurricane's and to a lesser extent tornado's.. research into those times when you are in the middle of listening to "thus spake zarathustra" and the roof gets rather inconveniently ripped off. For the anoraks amongst us, small wicker chairs offer less wind resistance.. a lazyboy sets up one hell of a bow wave which can have deleterios effects ..... No such issues with cassettes
Ernie1553552694 Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Agree: wicker chair good. Ride of the Valkyries!
ajst2duk Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 I can hear the Dr Who theme music building - TT turning into a dalek destroy destroy

Owen Y Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 You will be IN the soundstage! ie. The musicians will be in the same space as you, or vice versa
paul300b Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 I think Beeman has some horns for sale if someone wants to try it.... If someone does I can duplicate the drawing of the valve on the right hand wall free of charge...For a listen of course!
nixon76 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 For something of this scale (wall to wall, floor to ceiling) wouldn't a back loaded horn be betterer, as the taper of the horn mouth would merge smoothly into the walls/ceiling/floor, thus extending the horn into the room (you'd be in it!)?
Owen Y Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Not sure what you mean nixon, but the main thing about front horn or back horn is what is the nature of non-hornloaded side driver 'compression chamber'? I don't think we're on the same wavelength.... ?
nixon76 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 My terminology is poor I'm afraid. Take the attached pic. The curvy bit at the bottom comes towards us, with the floor extending the horn(?). Does that mean it's back loaded? I imagined a double mouthed (top and bottom or even quad mouthed - side to side as well) type of thing, with some full range beauty in the middle. http://pic3.audiogon.com/i/c/f/1273807228.jpg Oh my, in looking for the above example I see there are some Paragons for sale on Audiogon (goes week at the knees )
bigburner Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 That German chap got the idea for his set-up when he visited an old chum in Italy... http://www.royaldevice.com/custom.htm Nigel.
Owen Y Posted June 18, 2010 Posted June 18, 2010 Now the Royal Device.... that is a whole 'nother planet altogether.... much longer horn, multiple 12/15" drivers, IIRC.
Antipodes1553552706 Posted June 20, 2010 Posted June 20, 2010 Wow, what a great picture to show our spouses. Just shows how awfully normal we really are. I would be frightened that, as the woofers travel backwards, that I would be sucked out of the wicker chair into one of those black holes, never to be seen again.
Owen Y Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 He he he... I can see you disappearing now, to the opening bars of Also Sprach Zarathustra
