With comments like this from over the ditch "Personally, I wouldn't waste the shoe leather on Perreaux, but you should listen for yourself. I'd have thunk that the Plinius would wipe the floor with the Cyrus, but I have not heard any of their latest stuff. " man i thought Perreaux had a realy good reputation overseas i own one and love it but i guess i could be wrong  check this out http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/showthread.php?t=16133&highlight=perreaux

The aussies are just jealous they cant make stuff as good as our 2 P brands :D

I also would suggest, having heard extensively, that of the 3 in question in that group, the Perreaux is the superior beast. The Cyrus is good if you dont have a big room ( its not got the testicular fortitude of the Kiwi amps but does have a very very competent design and voicing )

To me the bottom of the bunch is the Plinius. And thats really saying that the other two are very, very good, as the Plinius, as many on here will testify, is a very good integrated amplifier. I just think its a little dated in relation to the other two.

i guess i will disagree re the cyrus

if you have heard a couple of cyrus monos with psxr on them in a very big room you may change your mind, i have had these in my room and on very hard to drive speakers with spectacular results, but each to his own

both perreaux and plinius are great products and as for the aussies who cares what they think

The Cyrus that particular thread was relating to was the 8XPd, which is in no way similar to a pair of PSX-R'd Mono X's. The Mono X is a spectacular 150w amplifier. I have heard a pair of them in an all Cyrus system ( CD XT, DAC XP, 2 MONO X's and 4 PSX-R's ) running a pair of Proacs D28's, and apart from my dislike for the speakers, I thought that the system actually sounded better than excellent with stunning dynamics. Something I have not associated with Proacs before.

Big dollar system however!

i actually have an 8xpd now and i must say its pretty damn good, not a pair of monos but with the right speakers its very, very good, it did take some time to run in and also using the dac on board is very different to running the cd in analogue, i think i still prefer the analogue but will see what happens with a few more days running

Dont go getting me wrong, I consider Cyrus gear very good. My comments were that in relation to the much higher powered kiwi made products that the original link referred to, the 8Xpd is going to be reaching its voltage limits much more rapidly. Please note that I stated that I consider the 8Xpd to be a very very competent design and well voiced. I did not intend that to be a criticism. However, personally, I would take a Perreaux with the dac boards over one in any situation where power is demanded. And any situation I am in required bigger amplifiers :)

However exchange the 8Xpd for a DAC XP and pair of Mono X's with PSX-R's on everything and I would be not buying kiwi made :)
