Mycenius
I don't know much about these speakers other than they are Japanese I believe and supposedly rated quite good in the 80's for listening to Vinyl? Anyway a mate has a set and they need re-coning as the rubber foam has perished (apparently they were last done back in the mid-90's)... A kit from the US is about US$30 for DIY, or he was wondering if its worth taking them into Audiomark to be done (I know someone recommended them in the Fixing a hole thread? I've attached an image off the web of what the TS-808's look like... It's the big 12" (15" external dimension) Bass Driver/Woofer that needs doing... Appreciate any feedback/comments - TIA. infinitesadness
Morning mate, My father has a pair of these speakers in mint condition, and I would say that they are worth re-coning. He got his ones reconed probably about ten years ago at Axent Audio and they are still going strong. Nice tight bass and great treble. I also tested them myself about a year ago when I first got my Marantz integrated and they have no problems going right up to ear peircing levels with no distortion. If for nothing else - they are a great party speaker but seriously, my father used these with a thorens TD160 for over 20 years with no complaints. Attatched is a clear image from a few years ago when they were in his system (they have since been replaced with Monitor Audio RS6's) and also a not so clear image of when i had them in a bedroom (!?) system after that. Guest
Those speakers are so Kabuki. Where are the latticed grilles ?

Beeman
I owned a pair of these for a few years, back in the early 80s $850.00 new. The 15" bass speaker is a very good JVC driver if I remember rightly. Used to put them in the window of my house and go work out in the orchard - they go loud - had to come in every 20 minutes to turn over the record hehe. I would repair them if its not more than a couple of hundred and the other drivers are all working.
Ariki Padlie
I remember these Tamons from "The stereo warehouse" up on Krd here in auckland. That was around 1986/87. I actually brought the Marantz equivalents the LS950X. Didnt those Tamons have a Polypropylene Bass driver though? Or was that a later model? If they were like the Marantz pr then they would have an effortless bass and definitely a candidate for a refoam. Go the 80s speakers!!!!!

Beeman
Another problem with these speakers was the low quality crossover pots on the front. I remember they were scratchy from new. I would disconnect them. The led lights on the front were kinda cool
Mycenius
Anyone know what the Tweeters are/were - or are they some type of horn? My mate who owns them thinks they are the latter but I didn't think they were...

My mate who owns them thinks they are the latter but I didn't think they were... They are a cosmetic knock off of the JBL 2402 (AKA 075) bullets. Love the side by side mids - great for vertical dispersion, less so for horizontal (unless you run the speakers on their sides:-). M
