Billy is taking Trent Reznor's model but doing a slow release thing to keep the buzz going that bit longer....

The above is different to Radiohead's model as they wanted a 'donation' for their download.

It will be interesting to see what bit rate SP will be released as. Trent made The Slip, for example, available all the way up to 24/96 WAVE.

Seems like the downloads will certainly be lossy, "the EP's will be more like collectors items for the discerning fan who will want the art itself, along with the highest possible audio quality available". So sound quality on the CD will be one of the selling points.

My only decision will be to get the EPs or wait and get the deluxe box set. I probably wouldn't want (to pay for...) both. I suppose I'll have to wait and see how much the first EP costs to decide. I guess they'll all be expensive to make up for the free music. That's the problem with things these days. Always with the limited edition blah-de-blah and I'm such a sucker for it!

Although downloading first will give you ample opportunity to preview the material, which I think is really the modus operandi for this kind of model.

Yep, that's what I'll be using the downloads for. I've got the 'free' downloads they released a while back (Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music). A lot of it is.....um....interesting.

I see myself as old school and I thought I would never say this but I'm now not so hung up on having the actual hard copy CD in my collection anymore.

As long as the content is bit for bit and there is access to the artwork/sleeve info then I'm happy...

Sacrilege - wash your mouth out man!

...but yes it will interesting to see how it pans out...
