JohnA1553552713
in the dark also, with just the table lamp on for some mood lighting behind me and to help with placing the needle on the record. I just close all the curtains and the room is always dark.

Omegaspeedy
I like to listen with the mates while peeling back a few beers. Having a best mate since age 14 who loves music and hifi too just caps it off. Problem is we don't get to do it often enough, so after kids in bed and good power feeding from outside is mostly the best I get. It's nice when my wife is in the room working on the computer as sitting by myself doesn't do it for me at all.
Electra
later on in the evening, at "reference" levels, lights to minimum before going to bed... Prefer with the dog not in the room as he make too much noise and starts howling to all sorts of music

Jim I tried that, problem is the 4 yr old can open the door now to get back in and the 2 yr old just sits down and starts crying out there when it is raining. It doesn't improve much from that even in their 20s:)
Guest Guest
After 7pm. Lights off. Loud. Cat beside me or on my lap (he doesn't give me dirty looks when it's too loud or turn the light on suddenly and look at me like I'm a weirdo). I'm always conscious of the wife and kids so when they're out I can relax a bit better. I like having the wife in the room but she doesn't like all of my music and she always wants to talk. got tinnitus
I take it when I can get it. So anytime is a good time for me. Ideally though after 9.30/10pm when the kids are in bed. In fact the thrum of the music helps put them to sleep. Being 14 year olds, this is a bonus otherwise they lie awake until all hours....

Shane Hanify
Cool thread Mostly at night, it's slightly quieter then. Also with mates, especially ones who are passionate about music. Cheers, Shane.
cortisolman
Company is a good point. I find it very relaxing and enjoyable with someone who is interested in audio, and can listen to a long classical/jazz piece. On the other hand, when I'm just showing my system to a friend who is not interested in audio, even three minute 'normal' songs can feel too long, and I feel obliged to keep it interesting, so I'm not relaxed or enjoying the music. Good point - I think we forget how fulfilling radio can be (we watched 'The Boat that Rocked' last night.) I catch GeorgeFM on Freeview satellite, DAC the digital feed & stereo amp - sounds sweet. Luckiestmanalive
I like to sneak down to the listening room after 9pm and listen to a whole CD or part thereof with just a low watt lamp next to my sitting position.
scotyd
Radio is a blessing sometimes, being a bit lazy looking for new music i use it as my libray. It stores and replays(sometimes) stuff so i can be more lazy than normal. Finding the right station can be the tricky thing. Bit pissed at gfm:mad:-took my fav show slipstream away from me.Now this oldish bugger has to club it every so often:D(wife hates that). cheers scotyd. Also a bit of loud Rage or Soundgarden does wonders for the housework (hate vaccuming though:()

Problem is we like both like 1/3 of our combined music library and can't stand each others respective third- so I tag the songs Carl/Sarah/Both hehe:D
