Hi, I've been researching a home theatre system and while I have settled on a Denon 1909/1910 receiver, I'm still fairly confused when it comes to speakers. It will be mainly for movie watching, but I want music to sound good too... probably a 70/30 split. Ths would be in an average sized lounge.

Two speaker ranges that look like they are good value for money are:

Wharfedale Diamond 9- Diamond 9.5, 9.1, 9CS (the diamond 9 pack looks reasonable)

Jamo S606, S602, S60 (also available in a pack, without a subwoofer)

Others that I have read about are the Energy C-300, Mission M33i, Polk Audio Tsi...

Has anybody had any experience with these? Any advice would be appreciated.

Another vote for the Diamonds although I have moved on from them (I still have center and surrounds in silver if you PM me an offer. In terms of VFM at their price can't be beaten- If your budget can stretch you can get some really good stuff. :D

I'd put in a vote for the Diamonds as well... ended up with 9.6 fronts, centre and 9.1 rears (fantastic little speakers these!!) and a sub....which I probably didn't really need.. small room and plenty of welly from the 9.6's...

Not bad on std Audio either.. great value.. budget EVO's..

FYI, the latest Diamond weapon's out now, 10 series, so the 9-series will be on the bargain price now (not that it hasn't anyway). with properly powered 9.6 mains in small to medium room, you probably won't need a sub. again, the key here is to feed them with decent power and decent source. if you can afford a bit more, go with the EVO2 range. it has better resolution, more refined and cleaner top-end, better mid-range and bottom end as good and tight as the 9.6. plus with the evo2 range, you can get the 'me-always-dusty' fancy piano glass finish.

bucks per bucks, it's hard to beat the diamond value for money. but as the old saying, trust your ears (just be careful with those bright speakers, as they might sound nicer n better than the diamond at first hearing but will be fatiguing on the long run)

Thanks everybody for your opinions.

I'm inclined towards the Jamo's based on how they look and the other threads I've read on this forum...but will be going to a JB Hi-Fi and having a listen to both sets of speakers. The evos are a bit too expensive for my budget.

When everybody says that you need a decently powered amp for these speakers...just how powerful exactly? Obviously more is better...but is a 90Wx7ch Denon adequate (1909model) or do I need to go up to something higher to make the purchase worthwhile.
