Bones1553552740
Hey, I've seen a few sites mentioned here, but wanted some suggestions of good places to buy new vinyl online (reasonable prices, shipping etc)? Also where would I search to find out if a album has been released on vinyl? Looking for Drops of Jupiter by Train in particular that I can't find anything about. Cheers
Cooksferry
Amazon is always worth a try, cheap fixed shipping rates, some great as new 2nd hand bargains turn up too. Most of my purchases come from suppliers there. Aural Exploits, lots of limited ed. releases and shipping reasonable. http://www.auralexploits.com/index.php In the Uk Norman Records http://www.normanrecords.com/ Also had good results buying direct from some Labels like Drag City and Secretly Canadian. http://www.dragcity.com/catalog/catdcAG.html http://www.secretlycanadian.com/home.php Also always worth trying an artists or labels web site, sometimes the records are cheaper or there's access to limited releases. foveaux
hi Bones This afternoon I had the privilege to view and listen to some of Cooksferry's vinyl . Most of which he purchased from the sites he recommends. Having not imported vinyl from overseas myself, I have always been wary. Nothing to be concerned about going by Cooks experiences and collection. I was very impressed with the quality, packaging and best of all the excellent sound quality. f

Bones1553552740
Cheers for the suggestions Cooksferry, I'll check them out. Also found a few eBay stores that have a good range but I'll have to watch the prices there- some seem a bit inflated. What about local places? Any good stores around Wellington that are worth a drive to? You can probably tell I'm only just getting into this, don't want to rush out and buy too much at once but I have a few favorites I want to get. Also found a few eBay stores that have a good range but I'll have to watch the prices there- some seem a bit inflated.. There are a couple of sellers on Amazon I've used alot who usually offer good prices, Caiman and Import cds. Newbury Comics on E-Bay also offer some good new vinyl and their shipping is reasonable. The sad fact is that if you're buying from overseas and you really what the item then you just have to suck it and hit the buy button. The more audiophile targeted sellers like Elusive Disc and Acoustic Sound can really hit you hard with shipping although their packaging is good(over the top at times) but again if they're the only player available...... Good luck, the hunt is part of the fun. ps, its sometimes worth Goggling the title of the record you're after and just checking all the hits, It've picked up a couple of good deals on hard to find discs from obscure sources doing that. Had to clean out a few on Sunday to get more of the new arrivals onto shelving and out of boxes. Not much more room in the inn for more shelving. Going by a previous poll there are several members with much larger collections than myself. Foveaux has a very comprehensive collection of original 60s/70s lps with some desirable UK and US releases. Pity most of it is stored away. Time to build that music room F. foveaux
Time to build that music room F. Damn...you're so right Cooks. What say I send her indoors off on a trip to Italy and I exact the equal value of the trip towards my man-cave? (referring to the other thread on pricey items 'slipped in' and a similar arrangement/strategy enjoyed by some) The guys/gals on our forum deserve a 'snap' of your albums in your ManCave - it will be inspirational. An aside... after I returned from our session yesterday I was spotted on my laptop looking at vinyl by her indoors - when I explained how good the new pressings sounded at your place, surprisingly the comment was "I always thought your 'records' sounded better than cds!!!" To quote some economists: "some green shoots appearing?"....time to resurrect the albums from storage, dust 'em off and get 'em spinning! And don't be surprised if some new vinyl starts to ship down south either! f
aarond1553552714
Does anyone know why new vinyl at Marbecks website is priced at around $50 for a single album? Is there something very special about the way new vinyl is produced? It really is off-putting when considering the implementation of a vinyl source... If its a heavy weight lp, ie 180/200gm then expect to pay some more. The audiophile labels like Classic Records and MoFi are also more expensive. However many of the smaller lables put out quite cheap vinyl. The latest Magnolia Electric Co release from Secretly Canadian cost me NZ$33 including air freight. I have picked up some new release lps in Christchurch like Fleet Foxes and Tim Buckley for around NZ$35 to $40. Shop around.

RickD1553552737
I can't post in the marketplace, but I'm new to buying vinyl and have been looking for these two NZ LPs; Fat Freddy's Drop - Based on a True Story Crowded House - Recurring Dream (this one http://www.tnt-audio.com/topics/crowdedhouse_e.html) I've tried the sites above but if anyone knows where I could get them please let me know! Prefer new as unlikely as that is, but will look at anything good cond =]
chopper30
Fat Freddy's was available on vinyl last time I was in Real Groovy. It shouldn't be that hard to find. For those with a reggae/dub/ska bent the amazing Ernie B's Records is an amazing site for purchasing music. So cheap and their service is lightening fast. Usually less than a week out of the USA. Most of their vinyl usually works out at less than $20.00 NZ www.ebreggae.com
RickD1553552737
Cheers I was only looking online, I'll check out Reak Groovy next time I'm in Auckland or Wellington. E B Reggae looks good.
quentin
RickD It is almost impossible to find Recurring dream brand new. It is a double LP and I took awhile to find it in ebay. Among all the crowded house albums, this would be the hardest to find. Be prepared to pay a bit for it

Tidied things up abit and gave away around 60lps to gain some space. Since you're a Richard Thompson fan thought you might enjoy a few pics from the collection. Sorry about the picture quality, possibly the worst I've taken. Next wet weekend job is to finally get some dividers into the lower 2 shelves and get everything into alphabetical order.
