is it best to leave my Marantz SA15 cd player power to ON all the time ?

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I'm wondering whether it's best to leave my Marantz SA-15 cd player to power on all the time, I could not find any power off in the remote control button (just like on televisions) and I don't think it automatically shuts off neither. The reason I asked is that my other cd player (Micromega stage 5) has the power button at the back and I believe the recommendation is to leave it on, it's good for the sound quality ? and my Micromega cdp automatically shuts the laser off when not in used anyway..

The SA7001 KIS I reviewed a few years ago, which shares some circuit topology with your SA15, sounded best when left powered up.

Leave it on if you are around and plan on using it, turn it off when you're away for extended periods.

Thanks Michael, I suppose if I leave the power ON say over the weekend or for a few days, this should not affect the laser burn time and I notice the front LED display stays on all the time, unlike my Micromega there's a setting where the displays turns off after a few seconds..

You should be able to turn the display on and off by holding down the Display button on the remote for at least two seconds whilst playback is stopped.

Instructions should be in the manual.

Thats my reason too. IME I've not come across any cdp's that change too dramatically in performance if turn them off or leave them on, amps certainly but not cdps. But MW is a wise man, listen to him.:)

yup, you're right Michael, I've done this and the red light is lit and display remains, but as soon as you press play the display disappears, and just let that little red light on, though once you're finished listening to the music or stop the player, then display is back on and the only way to turn this off is either press play (listen to the music again) or turn the cdp off..

I leave my SA15S1 on all the time. I think it makes a small but noticeable improvement on the sound, primarily a smoother top end (no difference in the mids & low end).

I experimented with this few weeks ago (when I was stuck at home ill & had nothing else better to do) & found that it took the SA15 about 20 minutes of use from cold to match the sound when on all the time.

won't this affect the burn in LED display overtime ? how about the laser, do you reckon the system automatically switches the laser off when no activity otherwise it might reduce the laser lifespan ?

I've currently set the blue illumination permanently off (by pressing the display button on the remote for 2 secs) and pressed display once to lit the red light so that the front LED display turns off but only while playing though, it would be nice to continously let the LED display off even when the player is on standby mode (especially at night), I wonder how many times you can turn the power switch on/off before it fails ;-)

Leaving a CD or especially a dc coupled s/s ampilifier on all the time :

1. With a DC coupled amp you risk burning your house down. ( this has occured when the DC amp faults and DC is fed into the woofer ( no cap ) and the speaker box catches fire.

2. May void you contents insurance.

Not safe practise.
