Gary.M1553552674
In order to evaluate some parts and Ideas I've been assembling a preamp using a chassis kit from Simon's business. Photos attached. Easy to work with, and great flexibility... http://www.designbuildlisten.com
Guest
Simon Brown from DesignBuildListen may be a name familiar to AudioEnz readers. He has contributed a number of articles and the occasional review to both the print and online versions of AudioEnz.
Guest
Stylish, functional and affordable. Almost makes me want to get into DIY...
enzedone
That version is $210 Looks a little too budget for that price. I do like the rear panel though. But frankly, after spending ours of work to get something up and running, and not to mention the cost of parts down here. The last thing I'd want to do is stick it something like that. O.k you can get plastic tops and different sides, but it all starts to add up. And you can buy some nice stuff from Asia now. And you could buy a second hand pre-amp off trademe for that price and get a few extra parts for your next project. But hey, good on him for having something like this, as it gives people options... Antipodes1553552706
It looks very useful to me. Anything that reduces the time I spend with a drill and file on metal is a wonderful thing.
Owen Y
An imported preamp chassis will cost you maybe USD60 plus about the same again for shipping. Then you'll need an internal switch mount panel & have to chassis punch some more rear socket holes. The Design Build Listen offerings now start looking like reasonable value. I rather like the holey look, reminds me a bit of the Consonance/Opera 'Forbidden City' series. Powdercoated Dark Pewter metallic or Imperial Red, perhaps? Ernie1553552694
Now there has to be a Mechano set mod floating around out there on the webosphere. Might be a bit flimsy though, if memory serves me well.

Gary.M1553552674
There are other panel options too... slots instead of holes. And metal front panels etc...
luigi
It should drain well, and all.
Owen Y
Great for tube preamps - lets the heat out. Also good for SS devices - lets the smoke out

Hopper1553552708
So the knobs, switches and sockets are all your work (not part of the kit)? Looks good though.

Yes, hardware, wiring etc added. The kits will enable all sorts of stuff to be fitted. There are panels for tube sockets, everything... so whatever you want to build you can. This one will allow me to evaluate passive parts, so no power inside and no smoke to escape. :-)
