Hi

I am considering buying Accuphase A70,  and Doge 7 DAC

Doge Audio  is Chinese company .

Any opinion?

Rest of the system

Proac D48 R

Accuphase C280 Pre

Thanks a lot

If you do buy the Doge, the stock valves will be adequate  but get the Psvane TII valve upgrade.  You would struggle to get 6 nos 12ax7 and 2 nos 12at7 for the Doge upgrade price of $240usd.

Quality nos replacements would probably cost close to twice that, 12ax7 have gotten very expensive.

Plenty of Sna members are well versed in Accuphase, they'll know if your preamp is a good combo for the A70.

Hi Dean

Thanks for the response.

I haven't bought it yet. They Quoted me  $1,830 USD ( with Psvane TII valve upgrade) deliver to my door with DHL.

I am not familiar with valve (never had any valve gear in the past).

Is there any good DAC do you recommend?

Regards

Are you aware that at current rates that translates to around A$3000?  You'll have to pay 10% GST and 5% import duty.

Doge will fit the upgrade valves, they'll be properly tested and should give many years of trouble free operation. So don't be put off getting valve gear.

The nos (new old stock) valves I referred to were made in the 1950's/60's and as they are desirable to audiophiles with valve amps, supplies of the most popular types are slowly drying up and becoming more expensive.

I'm not a dac person but at $3000aud, you will get plenty of suggestions for alternatives to the Doge.

Hopefully someone who owns or has heard the Doge 7 will come along too.

Haven’t heard the Doge, but the Holo Audio Spring DAC Level 3 (with silver transformer) at about the same price as the Doge, is very well reviewed and liked by all those who own it. I had the Holodac ...it sounds pretty special. The Doge could be good, but may be more of a risk if you have not heard it.

@AMEEN S you have a fine system with the Proacs and Accuphase pre/power. Don't spoil it by buying the Doge.

The Doge is ok, better off in an entry level setup,  but in this system it will be the weakest link. Better off looking at Giesler, Holo or Chord. Is there anyway of auditioning the Doge? I would even consider a fully loaded PDX before the Doge.

The Doge could be hit or miss.

If you're considering an Accuphase A-70 why not get a matching Accuphase DAC.

New, the DP-430 is great or get a used DC-37. The DP-430 is an amazing CD player as well as DAC.

FYI I have a DP-560, C-2850 and A-70 in my system.

Accuphase DC 37 way too expensive asking $15,000,  I might try DP 430 . Thanks
